How hard would it be to add a simple line drawing feature to sciforums? A little whiteboard type app or plug in?

In the actual science fora, having a quick and simple way to make a sketch is essential IMO, to help explain things. No lab or engineering office I've ever been in was without at least one good whiteboard. I'd think that the bandwidth and storage for a very simple sketch feature would be minimal. Making a sketch offline, posting to a hosting site, then posting the link here is a pain in the ass. Then, if the host site URL changes or disappears, the content at sciforums if gone. cosmictraveler 01-05-08, 04:48 PM In the actual science fora, having a quick and simple way to make a sketch is essential IMO, to help explain things. I agree, that's the same way I feel about having tp post photographs elsewhere first then download them here from that site. superluminal 01-05-08, 04:59 PM I agree, that's the same way I feel about having tp post photographs elsewhere first then download them here from that site. Right. But I can see where large photos would take up tons of server space. A simple sketch space could be limited. A 200 x 200 space with 8 bit color depth would only take up 40K per sketch (uncompressed). SkinWalker 01-05-08, 09:07 PM I think it would be better if we could get file attachments back. I'm not sure what the server space demand would be, but if we had the ability to attach .png, .pdf, .jpg, .gif, etc, then wouldn't that eliminate the need? You could sketch with MS paint then upload a small .jpg file as an attachment. superluminal 01-05-08, 09:21 PM I think it would be better if we could get file attachments back. I have no idea how such a thing would be implemented, though. Do you know of any examples elsewhere on the internet? |
