Hello, I am running a SNP panel and I noticed that the vast majority of snps are written as; rs10033464 rs1042522 etc However, I have 2 snps amongts 382 snps that are noted i13003626 i4000396 I am trying to figure out if the "i" is indicative of something different than a normal snps, or anything... Why are these few have an "i" instead of the normal "rs"?
I spoke to a colleague who deals with SNPs. She is puzzled by the “i” designation of those two lone SNPs – she hasn’t seen that before. She suggested that those two “i” SNPs are likely to also have the usual “rs” designation. Go back to the database from which you obtained them and see if you can uncover their “rs” designation. If you obtained them as a panel from a distributor, ask your rep about it. Alternatively, you could try BLASTing the “i” sequences (if you don’t already know what they are) and see if you can determine their “rs” designation that way. Good luck.
