Just went and saw Signs last night. Easily the best scifi thriller I've seen. Scared the crap out of me a few times, too.

I'd say the movie was very well done and very good at being scary by making the viewer relate to how terrified they'd be in the seemingly realisitic situations the movie sets up. I spent most of the movie tensed up in anticipation.

    Anyone else's thoughts?

    SLIGHT SPOILER

I thought it was a very good movie. More than the jumpiness of the horror it was very well acted and had great comedy as well as script in general. What I truly enjoyed about this movie was that the whole time I sat there thinking "how the fuck does this end?". And what was the most interesting? Somehow Shyamalan pulled off showing an alien. I have always thought that actually physically showing an alien in any horror movie just screws things up, but Shyamalan pulled it off rather well. Excellent flick.

Excellent movie, Shyamalan shot the tense moments superbly well and had me jumping out of my seat

i havent seen the movie, yet the paper (which i dont necessarily put my faith in but im throwing this out there nonetheless) said it was 3/4s of a good movie. . apparently, philipp wunch hated the ending. pretty anti-climactic i heard.

personally, i think this guy m. night shyamalan or whatever is somewhat...disappointing. i think he has talent, a lot of it, but theres something about each of his previous big blockbusters that has irked me. its only partially his fault in each case.

sixth sense--middle of the plot drags a little. little boy gets very, very annoying. i almost wished at the end, when i figured out the plot twist, that HE were the one who was dead, not the other way around, and that he would float up to heaven or limbo or something, and i as an audience member could be content in knowing that i wouldnt have to listen to his whiny ramblings were there to be a sequel.

unbreakable--what the fuck? youre kidding me. the whole plot was...odd to say the least. not that i have a problem with strange movies. im rather fond of them. but come on, there's nothing profound in some fucking comic book characters. shyamalan did a pretty good job with a shitty ass plot, however. i salute him for that. the directing in this movie saved it.

Never get scared at movies. I feel asleep at that Blair Witch Project movie.

Boring as all hell. I do not find staring up the nose of some hysterical student film-maker to be especially frightening.

    Anyhow...

Other than it has Joquain Phoenix, is it worth $8?

And is this review: http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/signs.html accurate?

"While trailers make "Signs" out to be a suspense-filled story about alien invasion, it's really just a ploy to beat us over the head with Shyamalan's faith-based film initiative"

For people who get scared or jumpy at movies - it is a suspense-filled story. I don't think it's a faith-based film, more of a self-realization based film.

"Unfortunately, in the process of this alien invasion, Hess's brother, Merrill (Joaquin Phoenix), states flatly that many people are killed. To me, this is the fatal flaw in this whole faith con job. Oh, it's so wonderful that Graham saves the day for his two children, Morgan (Rory Culkin) and Bo (Abigail Breslin), but what about the entire family of Quakers who got to watch their children force-fed their own eyeballs? What about the Hindus who were set on fire? What about the seemingly endless number of other Christians who died, but whose faith didn't do them one iota of good?"

The movie dealt with one man. The reviewer would have seemed to prefer a movie about the entire world. Very few movies dealing with alien invasion (or any other kind of monster scare) and dealing with the entire world have ever been anything close to good.

"Morgan has asthma, so naturally Shyamalan forces us to wait around for that predictable moment where they forget his medicine."

This is true, it annoyed me.

"There are two kinds of people in the world, those who see the unknown and feel hope and those who see the unknown and feel fear"

This is not nearly what he said.

No one did. I have yet to meet a person who was scared at Blair Witch.

    (About Blair Witch)

That's what I thought. NOBODY I talked to was scared by that movie. Yet they had it hyped as if people were running out of the theatres shrieking.

Yeah, i saw "signs" and i thought it was very well done. It was nice to go to a scary movie that was actually somewhat scary. It was kinda funny to hear the more easily frightened in the theater really freak out at the shocking moments. I have to admit, i like Shyamalan's(sp?) directing, although the way his name is the first one you see at the end of the movie seemed a bit arrogant.
