    Quote from Bush.

    I'm just aghast.

Sharon was found PERSONALLY responsible for the deaths of 1,700 civilians in the Shabria and Shatilla massacres in 1982 - by an ISRAELI investigation. He is on trial for war crimes in the Hague because of it. Unfortunately that trial is not going well becuase the key witnesses against Sharon have met with 'untimely deaths' over the past two months.

    And now Jenin.

How can anyone take the US 'war on terror' seriously when they call on the Palestinians to end terror at a time when Israel has killed more people in Jenuin in the space of two weeks than have died at the hands of Palestinian terorrists in one year. No aid agencies allowed in. Amnesty International barred. Ambulances fired upon. Water cut off. The rubble is under curfew. There are reports of extra-judicial executions and the use of civilians as human shields. A senior Israeli politican referred to the Palestinians as 'beasts'. If this was Serbs in Kosovo the US would bomb (actually, they did...)

And Powell slaps Sharon on the back and Bush calls him a man of peace.

    How sick is that.

Is not it that Palestinians and Arabs by proxy want Israel to disappear - that is why they send mad bombers to blow up civilians? If Palestinians had major tanks, planes, guns and bombs - they would have used them 10 times more aggresively. This is not just my opinion but by most of the media commentators.

That does not make it right either way - so they have to sit down for a fair settlement....

    Dear Asguard ...

Like maybe because they're NOT acting the same way!

When's the last time you heard of an Israeli 'martyr'?

That is unless you wish to consider Israeli soldiers who risked
their lives in Jenin, a hot-bed of Palestinian fanatics, to minimize
    civilian casualties, 'martyrs'.

    Take care

    That is a bit much.

This is partly a matter of language. Israel can kill civilians who get 'caught in the crossfire' or who are 'collateral damage'. But Palestinians who fire upon Israeli soldiers are 'terrorists'. As long as Israel targets 'terrorists', it really doesn't amtter oif they kill 5,10 or 100 civilians. One civilian dies in Israel at the hands of a terrorist and we are supposed to understand Israeli retaliation, but not, apparently the other way round. The media is not treating an Israeli and Palestinian life as equal. Is a Palestinian not supposed to feel fury when his family is bulldozed by an Israeli tank and buried alive?

There was a battle in Jenin, no doubt (one where I might add lightly armed Palestinians managed to hold out for days and exact a heavy toll on Israel's overwhelmingly better eqiopped, and supposedly capable military). But they appear to have managed to kill mostly civilians.

But that's okay, they were cracking down on terrorists. Funny how the civilian to 'terrorist' death ratio is so massive (actually equal between Israeli and Palestinian casualties - just a higher scale of Palestinian deaths - so are Palestinians attempting to avoid civilian casualties? The empirical evidenc is the same). So where does Israel's generous effort to avoid civilian casualties come in?

And of course I won't mention the execution killings...

Lets not forget that Israel was under attack... much like the US was from OBL. The US went in to get him, why can't Israel?

Take your rose colors spectacles off once in a while and have a long hard look at US. I think you will be surprised at what you see.

    Why is Israel under attack???

Maybe because Israel occupied and ethnically cleansed Palestinians off their land. Oops, I forgot, the land never belonged to the Palestinians. It was personally given to the Jews by God, right??? Just like God gave Europe to the Germans during WW2.

If you want to talk about the past, well, fuggit, it's Palestinian land. All of it. They were there first. Go back thousands of years and it belonged to their ancestors, the Akkadians and Phoenicians. The Israelis have no historical right over anyone else there.

    NYTIMES....

......It is more useful to compare this fight to a police action, or a rolling counterinsurgency fought out in densely populated cities.

The Israeli Army was out to kill or arrest Palestinian fighters, and to destroy as many bomb-making laboratories as it could find. It wanted to suppress the Palestinians' fighting capacity, knowing that, political oratory aside, it could not wipe it out.

This time, when the Palestinians launched terror strikes, they attacked cities they no longer claimed as theirs, and when Israel went into the West Bank, it went into cities it had ceded to the Palestinians.

Both sides know this is not the end of their struggle. Many Israelis believe that more and larger incursions are yet to come, especially if there are more suicide bombings.

"Unless we have a political cycle that begins now, as a direct continuation of the military operation, all of our losses are for nothing," said Capt. Michael Vromen, a former intelligence officer serving as an army spokesman.

Yep. However, there is some speculation now that when the chaps we now call native Australians came in through Asia, they wiped out and/or displaced some previous human inhabitants.

On the other hand, we aren't all killing each other by the hundreds over here.

    1. The Israelis got this land back.

    2. The Palestinians no longer claim this land.

    3. There are over 3 million Palestinian refugees who lost their land (which had been held for generations) through force of arms.

    4. Seems to me the issue is what to do about this rather than harking back to a problem that is no longer an issue.

    1. This is an obscene distortion of what is repression in an illegally occupied territory. Would you refer to collective punishment by the Nazis in France as a 'police action'? Same difference.
