How old do you have to be to be a Registered Senior User? AARP old?

Also, do they get a discount or something?

the senior user group was created to help stop spammers. people with more than 20 posts are moved from the registered user group, to the registered senior user gruop, where they are able to post links, as well as a few other priveledges i cannot recall off the top of my head.

Haha.

Actually, you have to have a certain post count. It's actually pretty low, which I dislike. It insults those of us who are true senior users, users who have been here a while.

The post count is either twenty or one hundred. It's intended as a deterrent for spammers, who tend to make one or two threads of spam and leave. You can't post a link until you have a certain post count, at which time you become a member of a group which is allowed to post links. This group encompasses almost all regular SciForums users, so maybe that's why it's called the senior user group.

EDIT: Vslayer beat me to it. :(

OK, so I guess mine should say Very Used Register.... :)

But what about users like myself? I have been here for over 4 years, but have only accumulated 600 some-odd posts...I read through here almost every day, and have pretty much since the time I joined. Should I be "penalized" due to my low post count?

I think athelwulf should be punished for his high post count.
Obviously it needs to go on a case by case basis.

I think your post count may be high enough. But, I do see your point. It's just odd to see those with twenty posts being labeled "senior" users.

i would like a BS meter, where you can give people +/- points in their profile, and it appears next to their avatar. would make a good distinction between users like fraggle as opposed to the likes of vincent, rather than being based solely on how much they have written as a measure of how significant they are to the forum.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. If you are to hard on the flat worms or even people who are otherwise rational people who hold unpopular beliefs would get irritated at low ratings and leave. This would make a more homogenous and boring forum. A wise man learns more from a fool than a fool learns from a wise man.

only if it isnt doing anything. what if the hour hand moves at the speed of the minute hand?

then its never right!

digital clocks arent clocks, are they? they are glorified counting machines.

screw that.
lets tell time by counting how long it takes ants to walk from one place to another.

What kind of ants and which two places? The moon is not a valid answer (to both questions).

well obviously, we would be keeping them in a farm indoors.
screw the sun. it will destroy us eventually anyhow.

You couldn't be more wrong. Instead of forming a singularity I will split up in clones.

In popular culture this phenomenon where spuriousmonkey splits up into clones is known as clone wars. Some people are silly enough to think it has something to do with a series of film set in some space opera decor.

Anyway, this Senior user idea is DUMB!

First of all, it is given after 20 posts?? That is not even kindergarten....

Second, it would be meaningless, even if it was given let's say after 1000 posts, because we can see the postcount anyway, so naming the poster a Senior is just.... REDUNDANT!!!

So feel free to go back to the old ways, based on my advice....No charge...

Then why name the group with more post counts the "senior user" group?

Syzygys

I understand, but it is still stupid. Every new poster is reminded (I guess) that they can't post links until they reach 20 posts. There is no need for this seniority baloney, it only started like 2 weeks ago anyway.

Athelwulf
02-06-07, 11:26 PM
It would make more sense to name the group that can't post links the "newly registered" users, and the other group would be the normal users.

Senior group was created to prevent spammers and when we started infraction system.
Since we disabled spammers through forum back-end and infraction system is no longer active, we could disable the Senior group if you agree.
All members will be 'Registered User' as they were before.

Or, you could just use your custom user title.

Anyway, whatever is your decision, I'll do it.
