Last February I witness while waiting at San Jose Airport overlooking the tarmac terminal, a guy seating in one of the boarding areas shouting out of no where “Bin Laden”, it wasn’t really too loud, at least it didn’t bother me or the people in my area. A group of three security guys (that seconds later turned into about 10), forced him to the floor, stepped all over him and handcuff him, later taking him away to some sort of office.
The old lady seating next to me asked, ..why they do that? I reply, that the guy said something wrong. The old lady replies, …but it’s true that it Landed!!
What’s understood as free speech, we don’t have it!
:bugeye:
She played the moral equivalence card and people disagree with her. Idiots like the one I've quoted will say how this is an example of how poor freedoms are in the US, but if this is true then why could she have said this in the first place?

Two subsequent posts have been moved to Feedback. You do not accept your integrity to be questioned in Public? ....And you’re covering it up with the excuse of
profane language. This is beginning to smell!!

What the world is saying is: they won't hate the US, if the US gives them everything they need to exist; and: then--maybe--they'll think about thanking us for our generosity.
We exist. Therefore, we are owed--because we can't do IT for ourselves.
Right.
RichardJA 01-11-03, 02:48 AM pity America wasn't so heavy handed on countries that do what their people wanted them to do, instead of towing the American line and doing what America wants other countries to do.
out of no where “Bin Laden”,
Free Speech is conditional where is can cause panic and endanger lives. You don't yell out fire in a crowded place if there is none. Bin Laden and other terrorism related names or phrases could easily do the same. I very much doubt that if someone was yelling this out loud in Britain that they would not do similar and arrest him.
A Canadian 01-14-03, 01:08 AM man... saying bin laden in an air port is like yelling out fire in a movie theater..... (just noticed someone else said that doh)
i wonder what the posts said that got deleted....
id like to add that this woman in no way glorifyed the taliban but much rather pointed out the facts....
did anyone actully see this on the news?
Asguard 01-14-03, 01:20 AM strange that i can yell what i want on the steps of parliment and there isnt a DAM THING the goverment will do about it, and i can DEFINITLY say what i want to whoever im talking too
pitty you have so much more free speach than i do *sarcastic*

I agree completely.
Seems to me that free speech in the US is severly curtailed by
(a) Blind acceptance of "the world as our govt./President/CNN sees it"
(b) Blind acceptance that the US govt does indeed hold the higher moral ground
(c) Pressure to be a "model American"
(d) Lack of common sense and perspective, as in the example that started this thread and the airport example posted by Microzoft.
With the exception of (c) perhaps, Americans succumbing to any one of the above aren't questioning Americans. Therefore they find it inconceivable that others are, and if this is the response to fellow Americans it's not surprising that the reation is so defensive when the questioner isn't even a citizen.
The only conclusion they can reach is that people are "jealous", ungrateful" and so on. And this is something you hear a lot in lieu of solid point-by-point answers too. If there was a real rather than indoctrinated faith in the motives and actions of their country, then they would have been asking the same questions themselves, and have a better answer ready than a delusionary and bigoted "your jealous", or a sulky, "Why do hate America?"
The more such deluded Americans continue to glibly dismiss qusetions, the more they don't get at the truth. And the more they are happy to believe in a candy-coated appearance of things, the more their freedom of speech is basically pointless.
A Canadian 01-18-03, 02:34 AM free speech in america is "You say what we want you to say and do what we want you to do"
in canada its "we expect you to do this, but no ones holding a gun to your head"
least ameicans dont have "anti-hate laws" in which you cant even make a website with hatefull regards. when Eminem came to canada for his first concert they wouldnt even let him outta the air port cuase of his "hate-full music".... which didnt bother mean cuase his music is bad anyways :)
and yes he eventully played... but with 1000s of parents making there kids leave half way thur i bet
LOL
