So Microsoft paid $10 million Jerry to appear in Vista selling commercials with no else than Bill himself. The ads are long and kind of dumb and MS now says that they were intended to be only introductory ads in a $300 million campaign to advertise Vista.
I think it was just a stupid idea to start with. Nobody will buy Vista just because Jerry says so. Buyers will eventually switch to it because XP is phased out...
That swine.
I will never watch his shows again. Selling out for VISTA?!?

Sure they will...celebrity endorsement is one of the most effective advertising devices going.
Paris Hilton charges 500,000 dollars to show up at your party for two hours.

Maybe with other products. But this is a technical product mostly FORCED on new computer buyers, so unless they are tech savvy, they don't even have a choice. I can't see thow a person who has XP on his 3 year old computer is going to run out buying Vista just because Jerry says so...

It happens all the time...people run out and buy a $2,000 Rolex because they saw a picture of Johnny Depp wearing one in a magazine.

Bulshit. Here, Newsweek making exactly my points:
http://www.newsweek.com/id/160064
"Yet the fact that Microsoft has to run ads like that speaks to the kind of perception problems Vista has had. Why advertise at all, when almost everyone who buys a PC today will get Vista on it, whether they like it or not?"
"Microsoft teamed Jerry Seinfeld with Bill Gates in ads, and then, after two weeks, announced there would be no more Seinfeld. Microsoft says this was the plan all along. More likely, it was reacting to the fact that the quirky ads made no sense. Also, hiring a TV star from the 1990s only added to the impression that Microsoft is stuck in a time warp, "
It is pretty much the same as Exxon advertising, Vista doesn't need it: (at least not now)
"It's important to point out that the struggle to get Vista on its feet hasn't hurt Microsoft financially. In fact, Windows revenue grew 13 percent to $17 billion last fiscal year (a record year for Microsoft), "

Vista definitely NEEDS lots and lots of advertising.
Why you ask?

Really? They sold 180 MILLION copies already, that is the default OS on most new computers.
Do you always advertise the OBVIOUS? Also, advertisement doesn't make a crappy product better... So no, Vista doesn't need advertisement, a new service pack maybe...

Also, advertisement doesn't make a crappy product better.
Advertising isnt about making a crappy product better...its about uplifting the public's 'perception' of a product.
With the right celebrity endorsements...you could sell hamburgers made from ground up donkeys!

You can argue as much as you want, the silly Seinfeld ads were a flop and useless (except the 10 million for Jerry but he didn't need the money). Also OSs are not a fleshy and overpriced status symbols like Rolexes....
It just shows how out of touch Microsoft is with reality....

I have Vista at home, with the exception that it keeps trying to sell me MS Office products (and won't run some programs I need like Reference Manager)... meh, it's pretty much the exact same as XP. I see zero difference.
I'm looking forward to see what Google brings out for the management of the desktop in another couple years.
Oh, just last week I was watching Seinfeld S2E12 BusBoy when all of a sudden I saw Elaine's nipple! Yeah me! When she was rushing the guy out of her bed (he was late for the his plane) a nip-slip occured. Luckily I have Tivo (well IQ here) too bad it was kind of blurry ... :bawl: I tried on Youtube but it seems the scene is edited or Youtube just sucks....

You got to love Sciforums. From MS's inability to make a decent ad, we got to Elaine's nipple.
Congratulations!
