Yah, the search index is still not fixed. However, since <A HREF="http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22societal+steam%22+sciforums&meta=">Google</A> recently did a fairly comprehensive index of the site, you might want to try it in addition to the local search.
