View Full Version : Sea lions slaughtered on Galapagos Islands
Ecuadorean authorities are investigating the clubbing deaths of 53 Galapagos Islands sea lions found in January with their skulls cracked, a state prosecutor said Tuesday.
The killings had to be committed by humans, said Jaime Estevez, who called it the work of "the criminal mind of some people who enjoy watching these animals suffer."
Estevez said it will be hard to determine who killed the animals, including 13 pups. There is no permanent guard at the site, La Pinta island at the northern end of the archipelago 625 miles off Ecuador's Pacific coast.

Orleander 01-30-08, 11:19 AM probably fishermen getting rid of the competition.
Anyone who hurts innocent creatures is disgusting. :(

No, anyone who doesn't eat them is disgusting.
Are they endangered?

Do you eat fish? Do you eat meat? Then I guess you are just the same as they are then.:(
I eat fish and about a bite of beef/year. Killing a foodsource and then eating it is a hell of a lot different than clubbing to death an innocent animal and not eating it.
You're grasping at straws here. The OP was about some POS who beat seals (to death?) and let them suffer/die for no reason.
Orleander 01-30-08, 02:00 PM Since sea lions are carnivores, would they eat another sea lion?

I don't think killing animals for no reason is the same as killing them for food.

Star-gazer 01-30-08, 02:16 PM I hope they find whoever is responsible for this. If they are not caught they can be capable of anything.:(

cook cook cook'm! cook'm good with BBQ!!!
Orleander 01-30-08, 02:18 PM some people (mainly fishermen) probably view them as nuisance animals, like rats or seagulls. Its how we viewed prairie dogs and coyotes growing up. We killed them like crazy and never ate them.
pjdude1219 01-30-08, 02:56 PM this is real bad if the kind of people who do this crap have gotten into such a pristine area as the galapagos

I know! He could have at least sold their pelts to make some money. That's what I would have done. I hear seal pelts go for a lot nowadays.

pjdude1219 01-31-08, 01:42 AM i say who ever did this should be taken out and clubbed to death like the seals they killed

Man will never regard anything its equal. No reason to start now.
If they do find out who did this, they should be fined and jailed.

they deserve to be clubbed like a baby seal

That is why you're a hypocrite. What right do have to kill to eat? Or, to kill for experimentation?
