Holy Crap!

There's a scrabble championship on ESPN2.

How... odd.

Indeed.

What's so odd, they have chess, poker, horseshoe and other types of games why not scrabble?

I just thought it was odd. That's all. What's next? Boggle?

Meh. At least it's somewhat intellectual.

Scrabble competition is fierce. There have been major tournaments since long before there was an internet to host them or an ESPN to televise them.

It's a killer game in competition, sort of like the difference between the way you and I would play badminton and the Olympic athletes getting the shuttlecock to move at the speed of sound. Apparently you're not a real Scrabble aficionado unless you have memorized the list of every two-letter word in the English language.

As for Boggle, Peggy Hill was the Texas champion on an episode of "King of the Hill." :)

Heh, my mom plays Scrabble a lot online. She has an account that has a red rating (the highest). She also will cheat occasionally with a dictionary....

At least there's gonnabe Brain Olympiads...... lol :D
As a way side note, I also like word games, be it scrabble, boggle, crossword puzzles etc...

Word games were 80% of my grade 1-8 education. I never want to see them again.

I love this game and play Yahoo!Literati (similar to Scrabble) a lot.
This is a great game with a lot of techniques other than memorizing the dictionary: rack management, keeping the board open or closed, timer management, etc.

Here are some "words":

2- , 3- letter words: SH, SUQ, UT
No vowel words: HMM, SHH, CWM
Q-without-u words: QWERTY, QAT
Vowel dumps: AALII, NAOI, UNAU

The letter C cannot form any 2-letter word and only worths 1 pt in Literati and is avoided like the plague.

Yeah, that's the same way that my mom plays. I'll have to take some screenies of crazy games with all the two letter words that eventually make huge words.

Yeah. Peggy was actually my inspiration for bringing up boggle. Did you see the episode where Randy Travis stole her song about having a boggle trophy and big feet? Or the one where she said she was smarter than God?

I enjoy the game. Watching the competition wasn't very much fun though.
I've been playing for 30 years. My highest score was 538. I had 5 seven letter words. My family keeps track of the best games on the wooden racks. Ah the memories.
