Does sciforums deserve a spanking?

  1. Yes. Sciforums is a den of usurpers. Spare neither rod, nor tough love.

  2. No. I'm a bleeding heart liberal. Corporal punishment causes psychological scarring.

    I do really believe.

Has this forum become more ridiculous and hostile and generally unruly lately?
Or is it just me? Have I become ridiculous, hostile, and generally unruly?

Please vote. We appreciate the feedback.

Well, there isn't a poll. There was supposed to be.

Before cesspooling, merger of two threads is recommended.

This is science. It should not be sloppy.

It feels like it. Sciforums has become too hot to handle.

Everyone is angry. All the time. We have sunk to the lowest levels here.

    I checked the first option.

Perhaps it seems a silly question, but ....

I know it seems like nitpicking, but the following is a serious question:

    Could you define "lately", please?

Depending on the period, my answer, as well as the explanation thereof, changes.

    Thanks.

Lately, to me, seems like the last few months.

It may just be a problem with me.

    A quick consideration

My first consideration is that it is:

    (A) summer in the northern hemisphere.
    (B) that a midterm election is drawing near in the United States.

The latter might speak for itself, as such; passions always heat up as Election Day looms closer. But of the former, I might suggest that the number of Americans and Europeans—especially Americans—has something to do with it. That is, it's summertime, and instead of hiding out from the rain and wind, people are out doing other things. But, at the same time, that doesn't mean they've lost their passion for Sciforums. Rather, they're putting less effort into their posts, but still think their opinions are just as valid. At the same time, the counterpoints are going through the same thing. This isn't universal among us northerners, but might apply to a large enough portion to make a dramatic difference. As a result, tempers are flaring some.

Then again, that's just a quick consideration. In truth, I'm exhausted after carrying out a one-hour battle with Salon in search of something I read yesterday but can no longer find; either I hallucinated it entirely (possible, but not likely, as it included names I don't normally pay attention to) or I'm just looking in the wrong place. With the shitty connection I'm using, though, the search has slowed. As a result, I'm just a bit spent. I'll give it some more thought and see if I can come up with something more useful tomorrow. Later today. At some point in the near future.

It seems to me too, that there is perceptible ebb and flow in the general tenor and quality of participation here. It does occasionally occur to me that staff attempts to flay our serfs into higher productivity in producing quality posts can reach a point of diminishing return. But, no matter: Bend over. Everyone.

    But is it science?

    I suppose.

    Sciforums is getting more grotesque.
And I'm more bitter, I think.

    :spank:

    Ouch.

    Yes, master.
