As some of you know I've done a contest to which I will be forking out for a prize of a Sciforums Mug very shortly.

The idea came to me after Shrike asked Porfiry if he wanted to do any contests, but I know that Porfiry must be a bit strapped for cash which meant it was beyond his budget.

I knew I could afford a Mug, and decided that I would put on up as a prize.

I think some of you out there too are wanting to do the same also, which is good of you as it does help Porfiry, of course the main points I was looking at was:

What sort of rules should be drafted up for a contest?
    How do we judge them?
How do we keep voting fair?
How many weeks or months should a competition be for?
Does anybody know where we somebody could get pens printed? (as we have an absense of runner up prizes)

[I have already spoke to Porfiry of the pens, but again, those sorts of things need printing in advance and they cost money.]

What do you think? Perhaps we can draw up some basic contest rules that others doing such contests can follow too (since mine was a little slow and sketchy)

Stryder, what about all members can vote...but the ones who join the contest have to vote at another member and not cheating and vote for themselves, because it is not a contest to win a big load of the d**n money, it is to help Sciforums.

Guess they can behave that way and you just have to trust them.

You can look at the ones who join the contest, the ones you know, you can make sure of if they will cheat or not.

You have good 'sight' at humans and I think you can make up your mind what the cheating concerns. Don't think they will cheat any way. No reason to do so. It is for fun and the main reason, to help Sciforums keep on going...

    Drawing contest please...

Yeah I mentioned a drawing contest to stryde before, I think the pinnacle of finding a way to make voting fair would just to have a counter that identified the members that voted for something, something that only porfiry or the thread starter could see. That way if someone who was in the contest voted that person could be disqualified.

I know that one of the vote rigging steps is usually creating a bunch of bogus handles and voting with them. Perhaps locking out people that haven't posted or someone/a bot can work out from the logged IP's if they are using such a technique to cheat.

Of course this would all be alot of work for Porfiry to sort out.

Perhaps you yourself should try to sort it out then.
You have been at Sciforums for such long time now, guess you know a lot of members and who is ok and who you have doubts about.

    Need any help with it?

Though it will be a hard job to sort every one out, for there are members who are new on the boards and then you should have to read all their posts and make up your mind about them.

Difficult job, but I want to help if you want to. Don't know if I am capable enough to sort members out because I don't know them all either and there are several members with more identities posting at Sciforums.

That I don't like about these members. One identity is enough by my means.

Guess they are the ones who are trying to hide themselves behind their identities.
