Some of you might know that I was interested in coordinating my observing session of the Lunar Eclipse with those of other amature astronomers here at sciforums. I have come up with a plan for anyone interested in participating in the event.

    1) Sychronize your time piece with the clock at the US Naval Observatory, UNIVERSAL TIME. Be sure to use this synchronized clock when you record your time singnals in your observing log.

    2) Keep a time sheet of significant observations, including the times at which you snapped each photograph. Be sure to write down the times in which the moon begins each phase of the eclipse. For fun, include things like when a sattilite moves across the field of view.

When we are all done observing, I plan to compile the logs of all participants in to one time sheet, and then we may all post our photographs, CCD time-lapses, what have you. I am willing to use my personal website (which I've never done anything with) as storage space for this. Even if you don't have a camera, you can still participate! Just a careful time-sheet will be sufficient, or share your sketches if you are brave

Of course, you might ask why bother doing this... I think it would be a very good practical exercise. Sure this may not help us find a cure for cancer, or even contribute anything meaningful to the study of the Moon that hasn't already been found, but nature is always fun hands-on and even better when shared in good company.

If you want to participate in this, just post a response and if you don't, that is okay too. If you have suggestions for experiements or have a suggestion of something else we might try, post it!
