1 quart of rum + burning your old love letters + T(time of relationship)x2= 10.5% relief from heartbreak.

thanks spidergoat but I don't think this works as an actual argument.... I really am hung up on phrasing arguments, how about any Epicurus experts out there? can anyone phrase an argument in favor of Epicurus's prescription for unhappiness due to lack of wealth? I know he felt wealth was unnatural, unnecessary, vain and caused anxiety but I need to construct the argument in a couple of clear, concise sentences and you are all very smart on this forum........ help!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny, I was just talking about this today.

Epicurius?
All one really needs is a little comfort. Our natural instinct is to seek pleasure and avoid pain, yet the sort of pleasure wealth brings is transient and unsatisfying. Likely, if you were wealthy you would spend so much effort getting and maintaining your wealth that you would be unhappy. Better yet to seek to maintain yourself in some comfort, discipline your mind and body so that you are satisfied with what you have and to focus on true pleasures - the intellect.

Asking people on this forum for clear and concise sentances?!

The only reason I can see for wealth bringing happiness is that wealth obviates the need to work. If you are wealthy and need to work to maintain said wealth, then you are defeating the purpose. Hell, poor people HAVE to work. If you are wealthy and HAVE to work, then you might as well be poor. I am speaking in monetary terms here. I believe that there are many forms of wealth.
