I agree....it's been a very cold winter here in Canada....I can't imagine living like this all the time.

Thats why I say global warming is a bunch of bs. I mean seriously, if it were the warmest year, then why is it so dam cold out right now? haha

You obvioulsy did not read this part: "Though triggered by warming, such change would probably cause cooling in the Northern Hemisphere, leading to longer, harsher winters in much of the U.S. and Europe."

There is only one solution to local ice-ages caused by global warming.... even more global warming

The end of the global ice-age 10.000 years ago, caused seemingly paradoxely a shutdown of the gulfstream and a local iceage in Ireland and most of britan, leading to the extinction of the giant irish elk. Only after the earth heated up even more, the local ice-age was gone.

How about making large circular dams around the poles, this way you could keep the fresh water inside even if the glaciers start to melt, at least you would keep the gulf-stream going because you could prevent the desalination of the seawater or adjust it to your needs by allowing water to escape from the arctic regions

Also you could turns the arctic regions into the greatest fresh water reservoirs to feed the world, I would start building the dam(n) thing connecting asia and america (beringstrait) and from nova scotia to greenland-iceland-norway, the outlets fro fresh meltingwater could provide hydroelectricity and for consumption by humans and agriculture? Snow and rain would replenish the arctic lakes.

Are you serious Vortexx? The north pole is a saltwater ocean covered by freshwater ice. You can't dam up a whole ocean! Besides, damming it up would also alter the fresh/salt balance and dissolve the current.

Who else is looking forward to watching The Day After Tomorrow in the cinemas this summer? At least we can be fairly sure that a "climatic flip" won't be quite so dramatic as that.

Yet it might be that, by increasing the carbon dioxide content of the atmosphere, mankind will inadvertently trigger a global population explosion of phytoplankton in the oceans - and an exponential increase in photosynthesis will then draw down the carbon dioxide much faster than we can pump it out. The result: a new ice age, within a decade or two.

Oh please. By the time this will likely happen, we will make devices that control weather and such nonsence.

    I hope you're right.

But haven't people been talking about weather control for decades? It would probably require giant orbital mirrors to concentrate sunlight and manipulate air temperatures on a large scale - and there would be endless protests against launching such mirrors, however beneficial their intent.
