It was perfect before and now I've tainted it. But then, if I hadn't revived it, it would have remained languishing in obscurity, unloved, a diamond in the dust. So it's swings and roundabouts isn't it? water 07-20-06, 01:06 PM I feel sorry that I've revived this one now. It was perfect before and now I've tainted it. But then, if I hadn't revived it, it would have remained languishing in obscurity, unloved, a diamond in the dust. So it's swings and roundabouts isn't it? Yes. This thread is such a diamond in the dust. But you came along, picked it up, dusted it, and put it on display for all of us to see. :bugeye: * * * Your presence here is most enlivening. Seriously. Thanks. :) redarmy11 07-20-06, 01:12 PM Water, I'm sorry. I'm bored. And this thread always makes me laugh, because it's just so pointless and stupid. I mean, you are telling me off again, aren't you? Don't frighten me. I'm not even going to ask what the asterisks mean. water 07-20-06, 01:20 PM I'm just being nice. Give me some credit! And I wasn't telling you off. You're just not used to my sense of humour yet. I'm bored too, and I laughed reading this thread. Alright? :) P.S. The * * * is merely to separate parts of a post. redarmy11 07-20-06, 01:34 PM I'm just being nice. Give me some credit! And I wasn't telling you off. You're just not used to my sense of humour yet. I'm bored too, and I laughed reading this thread. Alright? :) Oh right. Thank heavens for that. You just come across as a very serious person, not given to joking, and with no time for idiots like me. :bugeye: P.S. The * * * is merely to separate parts of a post. I knew that. You just aren't used to my sense of humour yet. :p water 07-20-06, 01:43 PM Okay. Now we're even. Satyr 07-20-06, 01:50 PM Should it be saved? If we could and would save the USA…then who will save us from it? You can’t mess with natural selection. It, like everything else, must die for something else to live. Let us hope, for those of us who have grown accustomed to its morality and way of life, that its death is slow, so that we may not be forced to adapt to a new empire. water 07-20-06, 01:51 PM *If only I could drown Satyr in love* Satyr 07-20-06, 02:04 PM Love, I have enough of. I’m overflowing with both self-love and the love of those that come to know me. It is freedom I lack. It is liberty I need. water 07-20-06, 02:10 PM Freedom from what? Satyr 07-20-06, 02:25 PM Freedom from what?Everything. Choice. water 07-21-06, 10:32 AM Everything. Choice. But even that is a choice, isn't it? Satyr 07-21-06, 12:00 PM But even that is a choice, isn't it?Yes. I choose to choose. The more options I have the more free, powerful, content I feel. The original choice to exist, is not mine. I cannot choose to not exist but only to cease to exist after I’ve existed. The choice for me to choose has been made for me. My entire existence is based on what choices I make. I self-realize through them. By choosing I exclude all other choices. I self-limit, I establish an identity based on what I choose. Absane 07-21-06, 12:08 PM But to me there seems to be a problem with "I choose to choose." It is a case of infinite decent. Does that make it impossible? I do not know. Satyr 07-22-06, 09:20 AM Or you can think of it this way: The ‘I’ is you, but to be conscious of it you must separate a portion of you to observe it, to objectify it. This separation creates the ‘infinite decent’ conundrum and the duality error. I am always that stream of thought, lacking, and choosing. The ‘I’ is non-specific choosing constantly. I cannot study it but only through looking at it in the past when it has already chosen. What is infinite is potential. I constantly choose my becoming out of infinite possibilities and so self-limit and construct myself through my choices. Problem is I am not completely aware of all my possible choices and I fall into patterns of comfort where I repeat choices by how familiar they are to me, and so how much less anxiety they create in me and how easy they become through repetition. Identity is about discrimination: When I choose A rather than B, C, D, or E, I exclude the rest by choosing A. The A becomes a characteristic of my identity. Something I then associate with me. I am my choice of A, rather than B. These choices exist in my past. My past becomes a running commentary on my chosen identity. They create patterns of behaviour that can be broken at any time but become established as being the path of least resistance. My past isn’t temporal, in that it cannot be altered but only interpreted. I cannot change my past only redefine it or selectively perceive it. It also becomes accessible to others for assessment. My past determines how others perceive and judge me. My past becomes determinable where my future is undetermined. water 07-22-06, 10:48 AM My past determines how others perceive and judge me. Hardly. To some extent, the way you present yourself, what you put forward for others to see, might indeed determine how others perceive you and judge you. But for the most part, a person's perception and judgment of another is a person's own doing. You can't determine how I perceive you, how I judge you. S.A.M. 07-22-06, 11:04 AM My past determines how others perceive and judge me. I think our past determines more how we perceive and judge ourselves My past becomes determinable where my future is undetermined. We allow our past to determine what steps we take towards the future |
