Saudis recall envoy in Danish row

The cartoons prompted protests in Copenhagen

Saudi Arabia has recalled its ambassador to Denmark in a row about cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad published by a best-selling newspaper.

A Saudi government spokesman said the ambassador had been recalled for talks following Denmark's failure to deal with the insults to the Prophet.

Some of the cartoons in Jyllands-Posten last September depicted him as a stereotype of an Islamic terrorist.

The paper said it was testing the boundaries of expression about Islam.

It said at the time that both the paper and the cartoonist had received threats.

Ambassadors from several Muslim countries complained to Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who had earlier said he could not tell papers what to print, or not to.

Islam bans any depiction of Muhammad or Allah.

    Boycott

On Thursday, the Saudi government said it had recalled its ambassador "for consultations in light of the Danish government's lack of attention to insulting the Prophet Muhammad by its newspapers".

Danish food producers Arla Foods said the anger sparked by the cartoons had prompted a boycott of its dairy products in Saudi Arabia.

Arla director Finn Hansen said there had been calls for boycotting Danish products in Friday prayers and on Saudi television and in newspapers.

"We are certainly afraid this will spread across Saudi Arabia and affect our business," he told Reuters news agency.

There were street protests both in Denmark and in Muslim countries following the publication of the cartoons.

    *******
Looney tunes or what, well i have said muslims have no sense of humour, how on earth can a cartoon cause so much anger in the muslim world, over 20 muslim countries are complaining about it, violence comes from people who can not laugh at themselves, or religon, what next are they going to ban bugs bunny for being pro america.

    "boycotting Danish products"

    What are you talking about??

Everyone knows that both you 'Saint Vincent' and 'Vincent28uk' are the same poster, it really is remarkable how stupidly arogant/ignorant, you are.

Vincent, as you have been told so many times before, go the fuck home.

Arla exports to Saudi Arabia is in the range of about 2 billion DDK, so it's quite a lose for them.

The cartoones them self where some wierd mix between the normale satire cartons we see around here and the very provokotive(i imaging). I can understand people who's not use the the culture would get offended by some of them.
Then again to me it's nothing special, this form of caricatures is very commen in Danish culture, everyone and everything will get shafted at some point

What is it with you john, first you had a macho problem with Sir Vincent, now you have transferred that problem over to me saint Vincent, John there is a difference between a sir & a saint, a sir is knighted by the queen, a saint is Canonized by the Pope.

Could it be john you have a big problem with anyone called vincent, or are you just paronoid over this issue, john i will pray for you, i hope you get better soon & these delusions go away.

    Update.

Events seems to begin to spiral out of control over this seemingly little matter.

So far Jyllands Posten has been hacked atleast 3 times to my count, and at 1 point about 75000 email was send taking there mail servers our of buisness.

In Palastine the Danish flag was burned and somewhere in Gaza a EU office was "occupied" for half and hour by heavy armed men, no one got hurt and noshots fired, but the attacked demanded that all Danes and Norwiegens leave palastine within 72 hours.

There are ALOT more going on all over the middle east, but it to much to write about. It's all going down pretty fast now, sadly its proberly just a matter of time before some gets hurt, all because of a few cartons.
