Looks nice. I see the alien head gave way to "Sf" I heard somewhere that the ownership changed. Is this true?
So far so good, although some good soap got deleted. And I missed it because I chose to sleep. I'm such a weirdo. I prefered sleep above soap.
I like the new look, wow, what a new & improved forum Thanks for the awseome technical improvement guys.
“Sf”—Windoze default font? Arial or something just as unimpressive. And what's with the barbwire? Oddly enough, when the alien was up, the girdle of thorns looked different—felt more abstract and, believe it or not, scientific.
The "Sf" is exactly the same as it was before the change. Except white, not blue. That's not Mao Zedong, it's Kim Jong Il, I think.
The thing about design is how elements rely on other aspects of its surrounding design—especially elements that abut against each other: such elements will become conspicuously blatant for what they are—or what they are not. In the case of the old banner, the meekish PC font used in "Sf" was emphasized for something it was not especially known for: rather than be de-emphasized for its sheer ordinariness, it stood out for being distinct because it was so blatantly occidental: it acquired status. Further adding to its status was its tripled point size over the more diminutive oriental symbol of characters: it acquired position—it hung over. And also, there was no background to distract from this "subliminal" message: it hit instantly.
I'm not sure most people really cared about the logo that much in the first place. If the existing one was there from the beginning I don't think I'd be bothered. Its just that the logo was of an alien, which didnt really fit. Hence leading to a change request.
The alien didn't fit because it took everyone by surprise—the unexpected is always an instant hit with me. But admittedly, the thrill lasted for a few hours: the alien graphics was nothing more than an Alienware rip-off...
Thats the difference between something thats unique and something thats cliché. To me it didn't fit not so much because of the nature of science over scifi, but the fact that there are so many websites out there and as you put "Alienware" that use this symbolism of an "Alien". Heck I'm suprised nobody's see n the classic description of an alien like a pair of NIKE.
However—it dawn on me that ETs are the epitome of or the symbolic gesture for advanced and rebellious science and scientific methods. Yet, the geeks on here treat 'em like lice. Go figure.
Of course. Goes to show what you think of that which is yet lingering across a horizon that wills to manifest. Reminds me a bit of your banners.
