Well who said I am denouncing it, I am just exercising my percieved right to vulgarity by following an example set by a community leader. I saw that it was now appropriate to act in such a manner so I am.

The point here is that there seems to be a very vague line in the way theat words can be used to make a point or just offend. What about when the post is clearly intended for both reasons. Lets assume that the Gendakin is making her point with a certain degree of humor, does that giver her the right to offend another member in a vulgar or sexual way? I dont think it does.

I understand that they are just words, but when a leader in a community displays behavior that is ultimatly looked down upon what kind of message does that send to the lower tier of posters here?

If you were a politician and you wanted to make a point about racism and the problems it was causing in America, would you then address a black man in your audience of listeners and constituents as a nigger? I mean its only a word and you were only trying to set an example of the stupidity of its use, but what good does that do the community. Did Marin Luther King resort to the same low tactics of those who would oppress him and his followers? no, he stood above it, as a leader should. He set a positive example for his community and incited change, as a leader should do.

So as leaders why not hold yourselves to a higher standard, instead of lowering yourselves because you find it humorous and original.

In a every community there are leaders whos responsibility is to maintain the cohesiveness of the community as a whole, and in our communities case "moderate" the quality of posts and discussion to a level that is acceptable as defined by the communites rules/laws. in other words a community leaders job is provide examples of approriate and acceptable behavior in the community and attempt to lead the people to act in that manner while still addressing their concerns for change.in our case they the leader must also enforce the rules that define and govern the community. To say that a leader is exempt from the rules destabilizes the structure of the community. its not appropriate in any form of just governing body, just as it shouldnt be appropriate here. Unless the model for upholding the forum rules and governance is using the U.s.'s current government as an example.

I have no idea what determines a first page appearance, I was under the impression that google spiders only sweep sites every so often, but our threads seem to consistently hit the first pages.:shrug:

Google's algorithms depend upon how many links to a page exist.
I think that this means that self-referential links such as in a forum would also tally up towards the total.

Sciforums database is huge and that's part of what gives it the value that Zox and co. saw in it when they actually threw down cold hard cash to buy it.

Combine this with the fact that we seem to place no limits on how many bots can index the site at a time and we get pretty high in the page rankings.

Of course, we were always pretty high even before we had 500 plus bots at a time indexing us. I suspect that there are lots of links out there on the web pointing back here to add to the self-referential links within the forum itself.
