View Full Version : Romanians...
kanpeki 05-08-04, 08:51 PM My sisters boyfriend who moved to america some years ago as a doctor said, in Romania, Americans have to disguise themselvs as Canadians. This is because we're likely to be spit on or something. Why the hell would that be? That just makes me hate the rest of the world and yearn for isolationism which is sadly impossible...
hypewaders 05-08-04, 09:13 PM Disgust for disgust. How disgusting
invert_nexus 05-08-04, 10:14 PM Probably because we made their national hero into an evil, bloodsucking vampire. Wait, that was England, wasn't it?
Really, I'd say it's an inferiority complex. Other nations would rather complain about those who they view as better than themselves than actually expend some effort to better themselves. It's a quick fix.
edit: I'm not saying Americans are better than anyone else, I'm just saying that our economic and political powers are viewed that way.
StarOfEight 05-13-04, 06:11 AM Bram Stroker, the guy who created the Dracula mythos, was an Irishman. He created the myth by mixing the legend of Vlad Tepes and superstitions of Romanian peasants.
Vlad Tepes became a national hero under Ceauşescu, the hated and dead dictator.
Apparently, they're planning to build a Dracula theme park.
Finally ... I've got a Romanian friend who moved to the States when she was 14, and she's never mentioned anything about that. Bias against the Roma/Gypsies? Sure. But nothing about anti-American hatred. Although ... Romanian is an Orthodox country, so they could be pissed by the bombing of Serbia.
otheadp 05-13-04, 10:39 AM Romanian women... one word: WOW! :D
i don't think anyone in Romania hates anyone
and with a soccer player like Haji (i think that's his name), no Romanian can hate a Gypsy
StarOfEight 05-13-04, 11:04 AM People in France still seem to have a problem with Algerians, and Zidane won a World Cup.
otheadp 05-13-04, 11:14 AM he's Algerian? i didn't know that.
I'd agree that nowadays in Europe it's smarter to be Canadian, the more the more to the East.
don't think someone would spit, but a sneer or a smirk - hell yes
whitewolf 05-13-04, 01:45 PM Sneer and smirk? You said it wouldn't be so! Lies, malicious lies! They all hate me! Kastrulya hates me too!
ghm. Really, who cares? If they spit, I sue. But from what I heard, nobody HATES anyone.
StarOfEight 05-13-04, 03:29 PM otheadp ... born in France, to Algerian parents.
Avatar - I don't know. Eastern Europe was much more supportive of the war on Iraq than Western Europe. Then again, if my country had been part of the seventy-year Soviet atrocity, I'd probably have some built-in rage.

stop these stupidities, you're russian
and nope, nobody hates anyone if you don't happen to appear in Israel or Iraq :D
whitewolf 05-13-04, 09:29 PM Since I have American citizenship which I can not wash off in any way, as far as I know, I am an American. Besides, my English has perfect NYC accent. They won't mistake me even for a Brit. Or a Canadian. I can produce a heavy Russian accent, but I don't know whom they hate more, Russians or Americans.
I really was kidding about "they all hate" stuff. No smile? Drakon makes me worried.
I saw the post before you edited it! "Fuzzy-wuzzy"//grumbles :bugeye: :D
---
see you soon in Latvia
whitewolf 05-13-04, 09:52 PM and before fuzzy-wuzzy, i planned to say "furry ears."
Anittas 12-19-04, 04:57 PM This thread is a bit old, but I want to make something clear here: Hagi is not a Gypsy. He is of Arumanian ancestry from Macedonia.
Victor E 01-08-05, 09:40 AM First of all I don't believe USA are very popular in ANY european country right now, and it definatly got worse when the wars was, since the newspaper and TV believed that their reasons for war was totally wrong and that they should have listened to FN.
edit: I'm not saying Americans are better than anyone else, I'm just saying that our economic and political powers are viewed that way.
You got something wrong there, your political powers might be good, but your economic are often taken as an example of horror, as a warning how it can become in europe... if it ain't stopped.
OverTheStars 01-08-05, 01:03 PM My aunt went to Romania with a group of people a couple summers ago, and they seemed pretty grateful for their visit there. Maybe because they did alot of repairs and things, but no one spat at them. I'm sure my aunt felt guilty for wearing semi-expensive clothing and such. She was afraid to show some of the people pictures of her family, because she didn't want them to see how large her house is. For most Romanians, to live in a single-wide trailer would be a luxury.
Dr Lou Natic 01-09-05, 10:25 PM Romanians are animals, who's to say that spitting on someone is even an insult over there? Probably how they keep eachother clean.
Why the hell would you voluntarily go to Romania?
"Romanian women... one word: WOW!"
Romanian women are knockouts.
Or, their body oder is a knockout.
Fraggle Rocker 01-16-05, 04:42 PM People said the same thing back in the early 1970s because of the Vietnam War. I knew Americans who did indeed try to pass for Canadians when traveling in Europe.
But for the most part Europeans are sophisticated, informed people who understand the difference between a government and its people. The folks from eastern Europe understand that even better than most, because for decades they were represented to the world by governments which they themselves considered evil. The only communist country whose people were sanguine about their government was Bulgaria, because they felt a debt of gratitude to the Russians for having liberated them from the Turks early in the 20th century.
I haven't been to Romania in thirty years, but I found the people there to be just about like people anywhere else. Which is to say that they differ as much from one another as any other people. I don't think that has changed anywhere.
Romanian women? Sure, they're pretty nice. But all women are pretty nice. It doesn't seem to make much difference where they're from.
Avatar - I don't know. Eastern Europe was much more supportive of the war on Iraq than Western Europe. Then again, if my country had been part of the seventy-year Soviet atrocity, I'd probably have some built-in rage.
That's was just our government trade off with the USA. If they support them in Iraq, we get into NATO. Simple high level politics, to sau truthfully, nobody here really cared about Iraq until the USA occupied it, and people don't like it, because they draw parallels with what the Soviet Uninon did in 1940. Thay also "liberated" the Baltics.
whitewolf 01-16-05, 08:52 PM On the other hand, I know a few Latvians who don't mind the war in Iraq or actually like America. I, being from the Baltics myself, can tell you I have nothing against the war in Iraq.
I really don't see how you can generalize so much as to say something positive or negative about an entire nation. There are different people everywhere. Romania interests me for historical reasons, and nothing will stop me from visiting it; even some spitting lunatics.
I too plan visiting Romania some day. On myself of course.
whitewolf 01-16-05, 09:05 PM Well I don't see how you could ride into it on anyone else, but I also don't see how you could top yourself either.
I have an armenian friend.
On myself was ment - I do not indend to do that with you.
whitewolf 01-16-05, 09:36 PM What does that have to do with me? I bet I'll get there sooner than you. Go sleep.
I have exam and at the same moment I'm involved in sorting out a very delicate and hostile multi-human internet interaction in which I take an unvilling part due to some idiots having psyhic problems.
My mind is pretty overloaded.
whitewolf 01-16-05, 09:41 PM Does that mean we can virtually wrestle? Yes, yes? Star wars? Red buttons? I don't have school tomorrow, I can entertain you. At least I don't have psychic problems.
I can vouch for you otheadp! Romanian girls are damned hot. Second not even to the girls of Japan.
Romanian hates US?
Hmm, i am a romanian.
No ofence but who cares about US, i mean who cares that much to hate it?
Of course some peoples here hate america, some dont like it, some love it
the vast majority are indiferent.
Peoples usualy hate or dislike things that are close to them, like for example
we was face the turks in wars almost 600 years, but i cant say we hate them, not at all, the same with russians, we dont hate them, i think is true to
say that are tensions and eaven hate at a moderate level with the hungarians and gypsies, and as i said becasue they live among us.
We deal with them daily, but the americans.... in the same manner i can hate the martians too.
All i know about america is hamburgers, cowboys, skyscrapers, and of course that strange sport baseball.
The only times i was face with the americans was trough online chats, i`m not agree with the general ideea that americans are stupid, some peoples here are ofended for example because most of the americans cant locate Romania on a map, or they dont know much about it, i mean who cares, i will ask this guys what they know about US, or eaven about Bulgary that is one of our neighbours .... mostly nothing.
So....
About that Dracula - Vlad Tepes situation i will clerify once and for all.
1. Dracula in fact Draculea - meas "of Dracul" or "son of Dracul", Drac means Dragon.
The father of Vlad Tepes was a knight in the order of the Dragon.
The romanian pesents was nicknamed this one as Dracul - the dragon.
Normaly Tepes was become "son of dracul" Draculea.
2. Vlad Tepes was rule in Walahia not in Transilvania.
3. This guy was very cruel, extremly, cut he was cruel in a cruel period, with one ocasion he was imapled some 20.000 turks on hill, to scare the aproching otoman army, here is known for his honesty, because is writed that in his time
no one was dare to steal or do anything bad, in the center of his residence the city Targoviste, on the central well there was an expensive golden glass with diamants and so one, ungarded and no one was dare to steal it.
He is not our national here, not at all, just an important figure in our history among others, our national here is either Stephen the Great and holy or Michael the Brave, some say is one or another, there is again the grand father of Tepes Mircea The Old, manny on a scale i belive Tepes is at most the 7 as importance.
A girl was clame that Tepes was become a hero in the comunist period, hmm is cute to see how the girls are ending in such conclusions, anyway i was post in the end the final of a poetry writed in 1800 and some by this time Mihai Eminescu our national poet.
"
O, leave in the old chronicles our forefathers to rest;
For they would gaze upon you with irony at best.
Rise once more, o Tepes! Take and divide these men
As lunatics and rogues in two big tribes, and then
In mighty, twin infirmaries by force both tribes intern,
And with a single faggot prison and madhouse burn."
thats all, sorry for my english
God love us more then the devil hate us!
bye bye folks
bakersayshi 01-19-05, 10:18 AM that poem, was creepy
