Actually, rap is not judged on the extreme, rather the norm. The very people that argue well for rap (unlike you Blackrain) state that the rap that we hate is mainstream, versus the stuff that is good being underground. On the other hand, you say we judge it on extremes, but were that the case, I'd say we would find it to be better. Though I applaud your finding of these questionable rock lyrics, I have never heard that song or one like it. This illustrates that it is, as you said, extreme. Therefore, this argument is about two different things with entirely different variables as well, and therefore not the argument you were trying to initiate. It means nothing.

Blacktrain: You're taking extreme examples from heavy DEATH metal bands. Let me say that again. DEATH METAL. Of course the lyrics are going to be satanic. Thats why its called death metal. There is a difference between that and rock. In rap however, harsh and uncompromising lyrics are the norm. You obviously dont listen to any rock radio stations. You won't hear satanic lyrics. They exist, but not in the mainstream. Therefore, your ass is owned is this whole argument.

Exactly. Maybe the problem I'm having is of my definition of rock, and what is considered rock. I was raised on classic rock: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, the list goes on. I just don't see how stuff like that is satanic. I consider heavy metal and rock two seperate things. Hah, and it may well be wrong to do so according to some of you.
Uh. What's so 'christian' about South of Heaven? They're pretty much saying that you should die before you see the light and therefore go to hell. Now. Are they glorifying Satanism? The Crooked Cross is likewise, although it could conceivably be about a Nazi ideology rather than a 'satanic' army. It really could cover both. So. What do you consider to be satanic? If Satan were real, then why would you expect him to be selling himself with these lyrics that clearly expose his evil? Isn't Satan the father of lies? Who says I was beaten down? I just haven't been on for a while. The fact is, Blackrain, that the extreme in rock (you said it was in your first post) is being compared with the mainstream of rap. Therefore, your argument has no real relevance. If you fail to see this, then it is you who are the idiot.
Blackrain appears to be under the delusion that there is rap music and everything else. In fact, 'everything else' also has a lot of bad content as well. Quality, of which there is little, can exist in any genre of music. Unfortunately, rap has not provided any as yet. And, quality stems from the individual artist as opposed to the genre. It is the one who pens the songs that needs to be critiqued.
