My wife rented this movie because she likes Leonardo DiCaprio and because it also stars Kate Winslet who co-starred with him in Titanic. I'm sitting here watching this movie and it is horrible. The main characters are the most self involved, selfish, unlikeable couple I've ever seen. All they do is bitch an moan about how horrible their life is. DiCaprio has a good, but boring job. They have a nice house in the suburbs. And they have two children. The wife gets the idea DiCaprio should quit his job so they can move to Paris where he can find himself. DiCaprio agrees, but their plans are scuttled when Winslet gets pregnant again. Winslet wants to abort the baby, but DiCaprio says that idea makes him sick. DiCaprio has been recently offered a big promotion and suggests they find their happiness where they are. So Winslet gets pissed off and sleeps with some other dude and (worse yet) stops having sex with DiCaprio, although still carrying his baby. So they yell and scream and fight and I'm thinking that DiCaprio got off easy in the last movie when he merely had to endure freezing to death/drowning. This is supposed to be based on some great novel pointing out the angst filled existence that lied beneath the surface of 1950's America. But I can't help but feel that the characters portrayed in this film (especially Winslet) are self pitying spoiled brats who refuse to grow up. Anyway, this movie sucks. Anyone else agree? Or perhaps someone out there liked it? It got a decent rating on rotten tomatoes, so I suppose someone must like it.
Haven't seen it but not surprised it sucks. There are many books that do not translate well to film, critics liked The Hours and I thought it was sooooo overrated. Watched Titanic with the same above mentioned stars and didn't like it at all. So what was the revolution? How'd it end? Did he leave, she leave, the baby die, they kill each other, what?
We watched this a few months ago. I really like DiCaprio and Winslet is good too. I wouldn't say it was great, it kinda left me with mixed feelings about it. I would have to say I liked it more then not. I wouldn't say I thought it sucked. Sometimes it's nice to see couples actually fight, because you can relate to some of it sometimes. There are way too many Hollywood bullshit romantic, fake movies out there. I actually thought the son (forget his name) of Kathy Bates in the movie was good. His character was almost the best one I thought. I like how he just blurted things out at the dinner table. I wouldn't really be interested in watching this movie again.
My wife likes this movie and even bought the DVD. My opinion of it is fairly similar to MadAnthonyWayne's.
Every man makes fun of me for liking this book. It's a woman's tale in the same way Lynch's Eraserhead is a men's tale. That's all I can say. Haven't seen the movie.
Was Eraserhead a book first? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Or do you mean Revolution Road? I think it could be a really good movie, but those two are terrible choices for casting.
No Eraserhead is David Lynch's off beat film. Revolution Road. Not all novels are translated well to film
I was thinking so. I was trying to imagine Eraserhead as a book. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Some books don't, but it doesn't seem like it would be a bad one, but I don't know any guy who likes the book.
Well what happens to the couple at the end? What was the revolution? How'd it end? Did he leave, she leave, the baby die, they kill each other, what?
I answered Lucy via PM as no one likes spoilers, save me and Lu. And I am dying to read Lynch novels and get the descriptions. Ahahaha.
Lynch is a film maker, a director, he does not write novels, he may adapt a novel to film like Dune but he doesn't write them an Eraserhead was not a novel.
I know, dear. Joke. It wouldn't work. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I never liked Twin Peaks, for the record.
It's more or less just collapsing into laughter when I think about how something like the lady in the radiator must read.
I know you already got your answer via PM, but one thing everyone should know is that Revolution Road is named after the street they live on, there is no revolution! Quite a let down for the men in the audience, no doubt.
I couldn't agree more. I was actually looking forward to this flick, and while watching it I kept waiting for it to start. Once the movie ended, it felt as if absolutely nothing had happened. Now, I generally have no problems with 'picaresque' type flicks, but this movie was simply devoid of content. Avoid at all costs.
