I hear people say that Americans have a short attention span. It is rumored that America has the highest number of diagnosed psychological problems that affect a person's memory and attentiveness. Regardless of whether that amounts to anything factual, I was wondering if you could answer these questions... American citizenship not required. If you're not from the USA, please make it known. If you want to add questions to the quiz, include them after you answer these five questions.

    1. How many people were killed in the Virginia Tech shooting?
    2. When did Hurricane Katrina reach the Louisiana border?
    3. Who was the CEO of Enron?
    4. Why did Bill Clinton resign from his position as President of the United States?
    5. What did you know about the Middle East before the World Trade Center was destroyed?

    1. 33 I believe..something around there...
    2. No idea, lol, I don't live in Louisiana... also, that's a somewhat obscure question I think... the border of Louisiana? Why would I know the specific day it crossed the border?
    3. No idea... but it's not related to attentiveness or memory, I just have never heard who it was.
    4. He didn't.
    5. I knew about the ancient civilizations (Mesopotamia, Babylon, etc.), Islam, nothing too specific though, I didn't care nor have a reason to care back then...

P.S. Are you asking these questions because you want to know, or because you're evaluating the answers to see if what you stated above had some amount of truth to it? Also, what specifically are all of those questions trying to find?

    Not from the US.

    1. 32, I think.
    2. Some time around summer 2005.
    3. Can't remember. I have a picture of a face in my head, but it might not be him.
    4. Getting head from Monica wasn't entirely appropriate apparently.
    5. Countries, most of the capitals, different religions. About half of what I know now, I guess. 9/11 made me a little more interested in the ME, but in a good way. I don't immediately think 'terrorists' when I hear 'Middle East', but I think of an exotic place where people do things differently, and that interests me. Much like I'll research a place that sounds interesting if I hear the name or read about it in a book.

    1. Around 33, I think.
    2. The end of August, 2005. (By the way, "coast" of Louisiana is much better.)
    3. Kenneth something. AHHH!! Lay - Ken Lay.
    4. He didn't.
    5. A great deal. I've tried to stay current on the region for decades.

... and you're attempting to make the link between a tendency to forget minor details without necessarily missing the forest and history repeating itself as a result?

    Good times.

I'm sorry, but I think it's funny, I can't blame them though, that all the people not from the US think Clinton resigned...

Interesting. But, ya' know, if everyone could remember everything precisely and accurately, we wouldn't need writing, or books, or libraries, or info sites on the Internet, or .....or most anything.

As to "repeating history", that can't be done ...never will exactly the same conditions occur again that happened in the past.

I'm pretty ignorant on the subject, but I thought he kind of stepped down because of the Lewinsky controversy?

He didn't publically resign or anything like that, but he didn't run again and took a back seat for a while?

    I dunno. Guessing.

Well, he couldn't have run again, he had just served his second term, which is the limit by law.

But anyway, I didn't really mean anything of that comment, I was just throwing it out there.

Not from the United States but what the heck:

    1. Thirty...two?
    2. Some time in the late Summer I think, two years ago?
    3. What the hell is Enron?
    4. Ok, can't really be expected to know why your president resigned.
    5. A lot to be fair, especially about Palestine, because we have to take religion as a state exam subject at school.
