Isn't that Charlotte??

Charlotte's Web is a children's book by acclaimed American author E. B. White. First published in 1952, it tells the story of a barn spider named Charlotte and her friendship with a pig named Wilbur. The book was illustrated by Garth Williams.

Hungry critters aren't they?

I know that there are certain male spiders that need to play it cool and get the heck out after mating time is over before the satisfied female comes to her appetite and eats him. I can tell you some of the nastiest bug stories ever told, I studied their sexual habits one I was younger...there are some good books about this!

You like bugs. That rocks. I used to collect these when I was a kid:

http://www.hydroponicsdictionary.com/images/insects/full_yellowgardenspider.jpg

I know this sounds odd, but I have a fascination with the common black and yellow garden spider (argiope aurantia). When my mother died when I was 11, I really turned "to nature" (I lived on an old farm out in the country) and I would spend hours (unimaginable nowadays) without any supervision out in the woods or in the field. As a kid I was never afraid of bugs or critters. I was generally fascinated by the whole circle of life thing to which I had been abruptly acquainted just a short time before. The zig-zag webs are amazing constructs and I always got a thrill out of tossing in little crickets and watching the spider scurry down to have lunch.

We went camping last summer and one of those had spun its web in the corner of my uncle's tent. He woke up and it was just sitting there on its web. I cringe every time I think of that.

Pest = annoying, dangerous, disgusting creatures

That fits the bill for all three

Varda
04-04-08, 09:24 PM
that is not the deffinition of pest

i think that the deffinition is something that not onl has no use, it's actually damaging

spiders are obviously not pests, they are a part of a very delicately balanced ecosystem

It fits the bill for certain characters on SF (not directed at you), but it doesn't fit spiders or most insects.
Besides, whether an animal is considered a pest or not is doesn't say anything about the animal itself, it mostly says something about the amount of money it costs humans.
Animals that make money for us are considered beneficial, animals the ruin crops for instance are considered pests.

Certainly, but certain insects I think we can universally consider pests, such as roaches.
Would you not agree?

Generally humans don't like to have roaches in their kitchen for sanitary reasons.
Roaches do not originate from homes however.. they originate from nature.
So roaches can be viewed as pests inside the house, yes.
But the very same roach isn't a pest when it's producing humus in the garden.
