Chaos, What is wrong with religious diversity?
Would you want the scientists of the world studying the same thing?

religious diversity, in my opinion, doesn't give religion good credibility. Lets say god was real for a second, wouldn't you think he'd want the entire world practicing the same religion? He could have easily given the bible to other cultures so that they all have the same basis of truth.

I do agree that cultures have developed similar religions. This is because we all are human and think the same. If any person looked to the heavens they are going to believe in a supreme being(s) of some sort, and attempt to please the gods in such ways as sacrifice and prayer. Humans made religion, thats why some religions can be similiar. Yet some religions can also be very different.

Seriously, what if every religion combined to create a super religion. What would that religion be like? Accually I think it would be funny to watch their services. I little muslim, christanity, buddism, etc... Religion is so stupid it makes me laugh.

I disagree! Any good teacher realizes that her studends learn in different ways. Some people are visually oriented and need to see diagrams. Others need math equations, others need very detailed descriptions, others just need the general idea and can run with it from there. So why would God think that everyone on the planet would learn the same way??

Primitive man had very little communication across large areas. No fax machines, cell phones, not even pony express. Language erupted differently, needs are different in different areas, societies are then built around these things, and so the people within the societies are different from those in another society.

A group of people that are heavily dependant on the sea for their living are going to focus most heavily on that area of God's realm and worship a sea diety as supreme, those living in the desert are obviously going to have a different focus and a different supreme diety. Does that mean they really contradict? I don't think so. They are worshipping and revering the part of the Divine that is most relevant and helpful to them, and why should they not? Would it make sense for desert dwellers to pray to a whale god?? Of course not!

Have you ever heard the term "Many paths to one source"?

You weren't talking about credibility. You said a 'super-religion' and asked 'what if god was real'? Which God? Jehovah? Buddah? Allah? Zeus? Peoples belief (or lack thereof) in God(s) vary; from the way they were raised, to the region in which they live and about a billion influences in between. To create a 'super-religion' would be to ask people to change their beliefs in God to form to this new religious beliefs. And we all know what has happened in the past when people mess with religion. And why the Bible? How come not the Quran? Or the Torah? Or Book of Mormon? So you mean a religion based on Judeo-christian beliefs?

I disagree that as humans we all think the same. If that were the case, would the Montgolfier brothers come up with the idea of a hot-air balloon? Or Einstein and the theory of relativity? Would there have been a Manhatten Project, if we all thought the same?
And I look to the sky (night) and not think of a God, but of something along the lines of 'X-Files', wondering when 'they' are going to visit.

Stepping away from this post, you stated in a previous post that your parents are christian. At the age of 16, your athiest beliefs leave me puzzled. Did something happen to you to make you lose your faith?
It just seems strange to me that someone would go against the way they were raised at a young age.

There will be a one-world religion and a one-world government under the rule of the antichrist in the end times as prophesized in Revelations in the Bible. The religion will be "new age" ish. It will be fostered by aliens. They'll take credit for our creation. The teaching will center around a progressive spiritual heirarchy, of which we are the lowly humans, the aliens are more progressed, and then there are masters of wisdom and avatars and such along the way. The high man on the totem pole is the master teacher. They will say that the earth is going through a dimensional shift that will usher in a spiritual transformation. There will be some genetic manipulation involved, which will be the mark of the beast. And it will all be a lie, just like it says in the Bible. A cover up for the rapture of the church and the wrath of God. Now then, when this all happens just like I said it would, then will you shut the hell up? ;)

I brought up this topic because someone said that religions are similar because people are worshiping "god" in the way god intended. So why then can't the religions just combine? Wouldn't they have the same priciples if they combine? No. It would make a big fat mess of beliefs, with multiple gods, etc...

Hi Chaos

What you are talking about " a one world religion", already exists. This institution is called "The World Council of Churches" Here in SA we have recently had a huge convention of this movement with combined prayers by leaders of religions such as Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Bhuddism, Judaism, The New Age movement, Unitarian Church, etc, etc.

Bear in mind the Christian representives of this movement are powerfull personalities within the church, such as Bishops and Arch- Bishops! They had no problem praying alongside leaders and members of other religions. They all prayed common prayers (specially written) to "God" invoking peace and a shift in societal values! (Lori is this scary or what?)

This shift towards religious unity and harmony is noble, but it really does bring the integrity of these religions into question, as God then becomes no more than a common denominator in this movement. The sacred manifestation of "God" is blatantly compromised and he becomes one more character in a popular TV soap.

What`s more this particular convention got a LOT of very favourable press!
