Re-imagined "V" Series As a child of the 80's, I remember [fondly] staying up late on school nights, watching my small B&W TV to catch the miniseries "V" on ABC. The ensuing TV series was never as good, but I've owned a copy of the series on DVD since 2001. It looks like the powers-that-be are bringing the show back with a new, and sorry looking, twist. And the ships look shitty to boot. "V" The Series. ~String
It was all based on that "It can't happen here" book written back in the - 40's? - about a putative fascist takeover. Then it mulled around around for a while and people decided they liken aliens more.
Hmmm. That may be the inspiration, but the original scriptwriter (Kenneth Johnson) proposed a modern fascist story to NBC back in '81. After reading his script, they thought it more apropos to do a story where aliens arrived and slowly took over. ~String
Yeah; he was inspired by It Can't Happen Here. As a TV producer, you have to go with what's "in" at the time, I suppose.
The original was okay, but it was often horribly heavy-handed. The allegory was about as subtle as a falling anvil.
+1. Also liked the 2nd officer and engineer girl. And the captain's estranged wife. And the psycho chick. But don't be dissing Josh Whelan. He the man.
The engineer girl was Kaylee and she was hot. The psycho chick played a Terminator on that Sarah Connor Chronicles show, so that would explain her fighting ability. Who is Josh Whelan?
Oooooh - FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Make sure you don't shoot first. Pre-emption makes the baby George Lucas cry.
Actually, I think that Firefly and its characters were based more on Cowboy Bebop than any of the one dimensional characters from the Star Wars universe.
