Damn, aren't you quick out of the gate. Clearly Justice Rehnquist was trying to hang on until O'Connor's replacement was confirmed to avoid a double confirmation circus. May he rest in peace. This may even knock the hurricane out of the news.
At least I can take solace in the fact that we couldn't possibly do much worse than Rehnquist. At least not without a fierce battle. I can't wait to watch this unfold!
Unlike you or your dad, one_raven, Rehnquist toughed it out, waiting 'til the last minute to die. So, in light of your statement, "...we couldn't possibly do much worse than Rehnquist...", what was so bad about a Supreme Court Chief Justice that is only one vote among nine? His position had no special powers that made his vote count more than anyone else's.
What's the balance again? Bush get's to appoint not only one but TWO conservative cronies. It'll influence the Supreme courts decisions for decades to come, that's the real burden. To have objective judgement is what counts,...and with the balance tipping over heavely, you can forget about that = my opinion Conservatives are unrealistic, unhumane and insane
Who are you referring to, Rehnquist? His punishment is to die at a ripe old age of natural causes after a long productive life?
He should have died by torture, I hope he reincarnates as a black gay stealin car thief violent robber, gettin it from behind, behind bars.
What the hell are you talking about? Actually, the Chief Justice DOES have "special powers". I suggest you do a little research on the position. That really wan't the point, anyway. The point was that Bush now gets to appoint two, possibly three, Justices. I would have a problem with that if it were just about ANY president, especially G.W.Bush.
