I just love reggae, I can't help it.

Bob Marley is one of my all time favourite artists and I reccomend anything by him.
Do you guys know of any other reggea artists/bands that are worth recomending?

:m: :D

Now, i know pop culture is a boil on the ass but I can't help but like Sean Paul. I *love* raggea too. Remember Shabba? When you've got Marley there's really no one else I could possibly think of to recommend- he is reggae. All the Marley's are. No need to look elsewhere.

But if you don't mind a female rastas, try Patra.;)

the 80s were awesome! depeche mode, joy division, the cure, etc. oh man, i wish all that was still popular instead of what is broadcasted across mtv to be passed on as good music.

and I don't like that it's fused into the mainstream, as with ska music. I can't stand No Dout or 311

Oh god yes! I wish I had been old enough in the 80's to really appreaciate the music. All these bands and musicians I dig now I would've puked had my friends caught me listening.

Buju Banton is one of the best.

During the 1980s serious music fans were saying the same thing about that era's contemporary music. They longed for the good old days of "the sixties," which was actually the period from 1964-1975: pre-disco, pre-power pop, pre-punk. dMode and jDiv didn't get much airplay, it was easy to not even know what they sounded like. The Cure had a couple of videos on MTV but they were naturally the more poppy stuff like "Let's Go to Bed," not their typical output. Most of what we heard and saw was of the post-new-wave or techno-funk school like Madonna, the Thompson Twins, and Duran Duran. Many people wrote it off as "it's still disco and it still sucks." Even though they were happily listening to the thump-thump-thump-thump of our icons Roxy Music (dance-a-way-the-heart-aches) and Pink Floyd (we-don't-need-no-ed-joo-kay-shun) adapting to the times!

Actually I like all three of them and distilled my own compilations from their albums. I thought the Twins and Duran were terribly underrated, their music was incredibly tight and sophisticated and not at all computer-generated. (No excuse for liking Madonna, sorry. I also have Avril Lavigne's CD.) But then we also managed to connect with the Cure's "real" music and saw them in concert several times. As for dMode, we had the benefit of living in L.A., the only city in America with a big fan base. They'd play club dates or municipal auditoriums all over the country, and then hit southern California and do a week in stadiums.

I"ll take a break from vacationing to reply to this post:

By Spookz: "max romeo, dillinger, u roy, i roy, burning spear, black uhuru, linton kwesi johnson, early third world, early ub40, lee perry, yellowman, charlie chaplin, bunny wailer, gregory issacs, culture, mighty diamonds "

--Cool fucking list; except you have to take UB40 out--too many damn covers and not enough original stuff, and rather, add Peter Tosh and Beres Hammond

"no skanky ass dancehall shit in here "

LMAO. Some dancehall is mad cool. BountyKilla's earlier joints were simply off the hook!! Same for Beenie and Spragga. When they first start, it is all RAW...success in the USA inevitably leads to packaging and degeneration.

Putting Alpha Blonde on the list just about does it. If you do indeed have all those people that is fucking awesome, for even I do not. But I boast one you donot have listed: Lucky Dube, amongst others. :D. yEA MAN, bUJU, Capleton, Sizzla,...got all their albums... Where ARE you?????? You remind me of a roomate from when I was an undergrad: Alain, from Lebanon. Crazy shit.

You saw Buju? Where? What else do I like? Hiphop: Nas, Gangstarr--true hiphop-- at least to my subjective being.
