I reformatted my computer, it has a 550 mhz processor and windows 98. I couldn't find the 98 cd so I put 95 on instead. Now my sound card doesn't work for some reason. I think its a Sound Blaster.
I'm going to get a 98 or better cd and reformat, do you think the sound card will start working again?
P.S.
I couldn't find any good instructions on reformatting, I ended up having to partition the c drive and then it finally worked.

I'd find the manufacturer and model (look on the card if necessary), then go to their website and download the latest drivers for the OS you are using.
To format your disk (as you are using Win9x) the best way is to go under dos mode (quit windows) and then use "format c:".
Your problem comes from Windows ("surprise") but it's not Bill's fault : Win95 didn't have the good driver. You can follow fadingCaptain's advice or find a new copy of Win98 (or higher). Always use a paid one!!! :D

There is a utility called Fdisk (short for Fuck the disk, hehe) which comes with Win9x, it should allow you to format your hard drive (and make new partitions and all that, too).
One more thing about formatting a computer : don't trust in Windows one (during the installation) because it's said to be a "light" one. It would not really reset your HD but just "forget" the files.

My computer is showing max memory of 2 gig when I know I had at least 8 before, did I not partition correctly?

fdisk (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q255/8/67.ASP&NoWebContent=1)
you can find more technical information here, but it seems like you only did a primary dos partition and no extended dos partitions.
