    A Letter To Madoff

I just read this and thought it was very strange for a person of Gawd to be talking about financial derivative money products? I usually think that money and religion just don't mix. Like oil and water you know? I mean, yeah, you had around the collection plate, but I've never heard a Minister talk about legitimate money products.

It seems different compared with the blue color working class - the local preacher standing up for the small worker. I just don't see the local preacher standing up for the wall street CEO banker whose lost his 10 million dollar bonus this year....poor bastard.

So it was weird for me when I read this as it's just not my sort of sensibility. I know Jews living in NY have a reputation for banking and so I suppose it fits, but, it just seemed weird. Almost surreal.

Anyone else think this seems weird? Or is it just my mid-western mentality?

Maybe Rabbis should be invited to teach monetary ethics at local non-Jewish schools? I mean, I think the guy has some good points, but, I was always taught to save and not over spend. Money Products just wasn't part of my growing up? It's could be good if all kids were taught a bit more about money: It's pros- and cons-

You don't have to be Jewish to be good with money.

And why would it be strange that a religious person would be upset with what Madoff pulled?

It's a rabbi looking to score a political point.
    Nothing new.

    It's just strange to me.

Let me put it another way:

If I heard the Dali Lama talking about fMRI and the medical benefits of Buddhist deep relaxation and meditation. Yeah, I think that's fine.

If I heard the Dali Lama talking about how to flip a securities backed CBB money option with 2.87% bonus plus with added tax write securities ties.... ahhh, well, no. No, I have to say, No, there seems to be something wrong with the picture.

    To me anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that in NY this is fine and dandy, but, meh, it seems weird to me. Weird. And then with the whole stereotype of Jews and making money. And the whole stereotype of people who make money being greedy bastards. Well, it's just seems like a weird thing for a Rabbi to comment on.

OK, one more thing. Did you know that in Ancient Japan, the wealthy merchant was the lowest in society. The bottom. Below the farmer. Well, I wonder why? Could it be that people don't like those that have wealth to also have status? Like, if you are going to enjoy the life money brings then it will cost you in status? Usually Preachers talk about the evils of money. To be weary of making it. Not how honorable securities backed money options are? Especially given that most people who put their money with Merdoff were just looking to turn a profit - no matter where or what their money was used for. They didn't give to flying f*cks how he made them their money. Just so long as they got their 10% at the end of the day. I say they deserved what they got right along with him.

It just seems weird to have a monk talk about Money derivatives. I suppose?
