This is an experimental thread where you can complain publicly about how another contributor makes you want to compromise the fanatical loyalty to Science that we all share.

Call it what you will, it's a silly experiment that mostly disappears, but then happens again, like slightly abnormal, self-conscious breathing.

(sigh)I would like to encourage such exchanges to rise and fall here whenever a contributor is frustrated with the participation of another. I'm going try and avoid venting any frustrations Out There in the more permanent threads. There is no fixed topic here. It's just a bellows, scratchpad, notepad, whiteboard, whatever. Will this solve disputes? I don't care, so long as they are no longer interfering with our higher standards everywhere else aboard the Good Ship Sciforums.

Return promptly to topic in normal threads, and no visible Moderator interference is necessary. Sometimes in good-faith debate there is a value in pointing out how ridiculous an opposing view may appear to you. But if the criticism of fellow contributors here goes into back-and-forth without a return to thread topic, I (or anyone authorized to so dabble) will politely invite, or abruptly relocate the exchanges here (where they may continue). They will also be regularly deleted. Everything here is fleeting / near deleting.

If such a gutter of low standards appeals or not, or if you would like to inform me that I am a meddling incompetent moderator, then you may freely discuss such issues right here, where they will have some poetic play before nothingness

If you get into off-topic personal exchanges where and when I'm moderating, I intend to delete such posts and insert them here, where antagonists are welcome to hash it out. And if this thread becomes distasteful, I'll "clean the litterbox" by cesspooling this little hopper and starting a new one, if there is still interest in it. If there's no interest, then things will run their natural downward, entropic course, as will all our lives. It's inevitable. So enjoy everyone.

well, I seem to have overstepped my boundaries again. I can't conduct a needed purge (deleting all posts in this thread but this, the OP). But I hope and believe that a Great and Merciful Mod will.

Oh, I didn't bring it forward but in the above incident countezero, quadraphonics, iceaura, and possibly others seemed to have had ruffled feathers. I welcome them, and any others so inclined to cockfight here about it. I'll keep a loof, of course.

Be warned, I reserve the prerogative to delete and possibly relocate any posts here in this litterbox that are largely on-topic in the thread whence the above quote came. Do me a favor, and please don't make really good on-topic posts here.

I appreciate your stepping in. I don't want crybaby/whiny/drama/bs personal attacks in my or anyone else's threads.

 

The pretense that individuals "own" threads is both bizarre and pervasive here.

But perhaps it explains certain of the behaviors in evidence.

If authorial control is what you're after, I recommend a blog over a forum.
