Spoilers-be-damned, if you didn't watch it live, you missed the biggest moment in the history of MMA to date! Randy Couture DOMINATED Tim Sylvia for 25 minutes in what has to be the most amazing upset in recent memory. 6'8" vs. 6"1 ~285 lbs vs. ~222lbs Almost a FOOT reach advantage 30 years old vs. 43!!! And Randy dominated the stand-up. He took Tim down at will, something that nobody has been able to do. He closed up Tim's Left eye with a neverending series of overhand rights that couldn't miss their mark all night. One of them nearly ended the fight in the first 10 seconds. I was hooting and hollering like a school-kid. It was really one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on TV, and a moment I will never forget. A reviled fighter overthrown by the nicest, most genuine man in the sport. Good triumphing over evil. Randy proving to Tim that you can't sit back and pray to win a fight, you have to bring WAR. WAR Randy! I'm so proud of you tonight. I never thought, in a million years that I would ever say the following: "I would hate to be Mirko Filopovich"!
im a fan of Kimbo Slice....not quite the same, but i saw him fight Mark (mike?) Gannon to a standstill.
He dominated Sylvia! Sylvia had NOTHING on Couture! He beat him standing up! Sylvia got in FOUR PUNCHES in the entire fight! NO kicks! WHAT THE HELL?! That was great!
Couture v. Marko Cro Cop = Zeus v. Odin. That will be...amazing. They might as well call it: UFC 71: Clash of the Titans.
You think that PPV will sell well? Oh, and let's never have another UFC fight in Vegas ever again. Those fans last night were stellar. The UFC is going to Texas and England next, and I say, "Keep the bus warm". Go on a country-wide tour. Any state which will sanction the fights. The popularity will just keep going up. Charlotte, NC. One of the old homes of the UFC deserves a visit. Go to Detroit, Boston, NYC. And keep rewarding those Mid-West fans, they were one of the great winners of last night's fight. Sign with HBO and get rid of the barbaric and far-more brutal sport of boxing. WAR MMA!
are you kidding? professional boxing has become so tame and safe that its not even a sport anymore...they stop fights because of any cut at all, lately! mma IS more entertaining...but i wouldnt say that boxing is more brutal. bring back the marcianos and the listons!
I am getting tickets if it comes to NYC. And yes, the PPV will not only sell well, it'll beat every other MMA ever done. It will be the best match since this one and Fedor v. Cro-Cop. Top four MMA fights in no particular order: Fedor v. Cro-Cop. Matt Hughes v. Royce Gracie. Sakuraba v. Royce Gracie. Randy Couture v. Sylvia.
Also: Boxing is great. It just needs a lot more regulation to make the belts mean something and the fights have the respect they deserve. And yes, dear God, let's finally have someone with Marciano's spirit. That man was a God in the ring.
the klitchko brothers are carrying the sport right now...if it werent for them, heavyweight boxing would be "in the cesspool". heh.
I disagree. Cuts are nothing, that is not the brutality. The brutality comes from the gloves, which protects the pugilists' hands so that he/she can land more blows, and prevents a KO, so he/she can land more blows. And they stop the fight on any knockdown, give a standing 8, and resume, so he/she can land more blows. They have more rest and more rounds so he/she can land more blows. And it is impact of the skull on the brain that does the really bad damage, not cuts and swollen eyes. MMA is much more humane and gentle compared to boxing. It might look worse, but your epidermis can take a brutal beating and it means nothing for the organism. There is a reason our brains are encased in bone. Old MMA fighters become ring announcers, trainers, (HW champions), with their full faculties. Old boxers are trotted out like retards at the Olympics, give slurred opinions ringside, sell grills, tattoo their faces and resort to cannibalism. Boxing hasn't been a decent sport since the 50's.
Couture takes Cro Cop. That Randy Couture was the best Randy I have ever seen. The Randy that beat Tim looked just about unstoppable. His head movement was great, he kept Tim guessing all five rounds. Its not that Sylvia didn't let go, he COULDN'T hit Randy.
I don't know. Cro-Cop is a monster in the ring. If nothing else, it will be one of the best matches of the year.
KA-CHING!! Randy is a smart dude. The thing about Mirko is that he has a specific gameplan. I think Randy can come up with something specific that might work. Randy looked a LOT like Fedor in that last fight. Not too big for a heavyweight, wide, looping, fast rights. Good shoulder height and head movement, always coming forward. Simple, powerful takedowns, and looking to posture up in the guard or punish from side control. I know it sounds like a strange comparison, but go watch the Fedor/Mirko fight and watch the Couture/Silvia fight, you will see what I'm talking about. Now, I think Fedor does all of this better than Randy can, but it does mean that Randy might match up well against Mirko. That left kick scares the hell out of me, though. I've seen guys block it and get knocked down. I've seen Mirko end a fight with a kick to the ribs. Beating Mirko will mean doing something to protect the entire left side of your body. Everyone knows to circle left and lead with your own left, and it still doesn't matter. Like PJ says, great matchup. And I wouldn't have thought there was anyone I would pull for OVER Mirko, but he came out of retirement to prove me wrong. I hope Randy wins, defends the belt one final time, retires a champ, and Mirko wins the vacancy fight. Too much to ask?
I would love for Couture to go out champion, yes. That would be excellent. However, a loss to Cro-Cop, or better yet, a three-match up epic battle, would be great, too. Anyway, I just can't wait till it goes down.
Is this some British thing? Coutoure? That's clothing isn't it?? Who's Sylvia? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
