Okay, who else here is tired of racism being cried at the drop of a hat? For those who don't know, I'm currently residing in the Indianapolis and greater area. Earlier this week, we had our yearly Black Expo, which is usually lighthearted and good fun, also a great place to go for good food. :p
This year, after the event was over, some blacks came forward to the media, claiming the police had been acting in a racist manner by giving them parking tickets. They claim they were unfairly targeted by the police, and that the police had been specifically staking out the event to give parking tickets.
This has a few problems. First off, if you get a parking ticket, it is because you parked illegally, usually. This was no exception. Everyone that was given a parking ticket, had in fact been parked illegally. So what's the problem? It was said that they were specifically targeted by the police, making it a racist act. Of course they were targeted by the police! The police target every major event in every major city. It's called event security. Naturally more blacks were given parking tickets because more blacks attended the event!
Now, if the parking tickets were in fact given illegally, that that should be remedied. But they weren't. I'm not against the right for the "victims" to go to the media and make all the noise they want. What I am against is the mayor of the city having to publicly apoligize on behalf of the police... for enforcing the law? Honestly, some things are not racist. If you park illegally, and get a parking ticket for it, you have no right to complain. It is when the police illegally give the parking ticket that one has the right to complain. In this case the police didn't, and the "victims" complained anyway. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this?
