It would be nice to see some drag down menus at the bottom and top of every forum that link to all the other forums.

Porfiry 07-03-03, 03:56 AM ...it's also a waste of bandwidth. sargentlard 07-03-03, 03:27 PM Originally posted by Porfiry ...it's also a waste of bandwidth. Fuuny, i thought it was the other way around. Wrong Robot 07-04-03, 01:55 AM Well then, how about having these types of forum hierarchy at the bottom as well. sciforums.com > sciforums.com > Site Feedback > Quick forum jumps theonlyguyever 07-04-03, 12:53 PM Originally posted by Wrong Robot Well then, how about having these types of forum hierarchy at the bottom as well. sciforums.com > sciforums.com > Site Feedback > Quick forum jumps *raises hand* I think this would be useful too!! count my vote in there.. sargentlard 07-04-03, 01:07 PM You people don't get it do you......chances are this will never happen.....He won't even give it a thought. Then why is this suggestion box here? sargentlard 07-10-03, 04:17 PM Originally posted by Wrong Robot Then why is this suggestion box here? To complain about things you can actually change or site problems. New suggestion don't get a consideration here though you are welcome to add your opinion and share your views. New suggestion don't get a consideration here though you are welcome to add your opinion and share your views. hmm...then the description of the forum is misleading, why bother stating that this forum is for suggestions(as well as questions and criticisms) if there is no point in suggesting anything? spuriousmonkey 07-11-03, 02:31 AM because this is the 'second' freethought forum, and fortunately most people don't know it. So now i can post in the biology, in freethought, and in the secret freethought forum... thanks porfiry (this must be one of the first times I brown-nosed) one_raven 07-11-03, 02:36 AM Waste of bandwidth? How so? Wouldn't a simple listbox form element with a JavaScript link to the main sub-forum pages take LESS bandwidth than me clicking on the banner to go to the homepage (reloading the homepage), then clicking on the specific sub-forum? Porfiry 07-11-03, 04:31 AM ...because if you add 10-20kb to every page loaded by every user the cost is far greater than the cost incurred by the occasional visit to the main page now and then. With a forum as busy as sciforums, we're talking about tens of gigabytes of data per month. And so unless you're going to cough up the dough, this ain't gonna happen. one_raven 07-11-03, 07:14 PM I am not arguing FOR the quick jumps, believe me, I could care less since I probably wouldn't use them anyway. However... A simple quick jump drop down could be created up next to the sciforums.com logo at the top at a cost of no more than 100 - 200 bytes per page. I would be geniunely surprised if a quick-jump would cost more bandwidth than having users constantly reloading the homepage. (plus you could convert that banner/menu across the top to a non-scrollable frame, and save even more bandwidth). |
