I am having problems with my internet explorer. I click on the icon, the page comes up but I never get to my home page. I have a wireless connection, so I know am connected? For the record I am computer illiterate, and do not know the first thing to do, any help would be useful!

Some extra help maybe:
-When I go to the internet options, it gives me a window that says "Restrictions:This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, please contact your system administrator(personal computer I thought I was the administrator)
-When I go to the Help and Support Center from the start menu I receive this window: "the application is not a valid windows image, please check this against your installation diskette"

Any help would be appreciated

Go to tools on the task bar , then look to see what your internet options say as to what your home page is. If it doesn't say what you want then erase it and put the address of the home page you want.

I would not know where to get it, or how to put it in.

It will not let me add a homepage, it will not let me go to any page, it seems to me it connects to the page, but never shows it

Home page is "blank page". It will not let me change my home page, I press th button and nothing comes up? The only thing I have done lately is ran spybot, disk clean up, and disk defrag. I see there is a system restore in the systems tool folder. Should I try that?

you might have gotten yourself infected with a trojan or virus.
unfortunately i am unable to help you. the only thing i could suggest is a reinstall. you could try the restore option but i doubt if it would kill the bug.

edit:
you can get firefox here:

Well thanks for the info. One more question though, how do I get firefox onto my computer (this is not my computer I am posting on), if I can not get onto the internet. I think I know the answer but do not like it. And also do I need to reinstall my whole system or just parts? Thanks again.

I wouldnt jump the gun and go to reinstalling anything just yet. Here's a link to Microsoft's support page on your error (when trying to access Internet Tools):
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=216583
But I'l give you the jist of it:
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Inetcpl.cpl file is missing from the Windows \System or %SystemRoot%\System32 folder or if a restriction is set on the NoBrowserOptions Windows registry value.
So first thing you should do is check if Inetcpl.cpl exists (in C:\Windows\System\System32\ )

If it doesn't, theres your problem. If it is there, you will have to try registry editing, follow these instructions:

Click Start, click Run, and then type regedit in the Open box.
2. Locate the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions
3. If a value called NoBrowserOptions exists, delete it.
4. Restart the computer.

And if that wasnt the problem, then we get into some reinstalling (just IE though, not Windows)

I doubt you have a virus however, ones like that are typically called browser hijackers though, and are a bitch to get rid of (most regular anti-spyware/virus utilities wont do it)
however, they normaly set your homepage to a phoney add, and sometimes redirect you to pages other than the ones you type in.

1)Be VERY careful when trying to edit the registry. Make a mistake, and it could blow up your entire system.

2)Back up important files!

3)Can you send emails? If you open a cmd window and type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes), to you see IP addresses? (they look like: 192.168.1.12)
