i suppose most have said stuff at one time or another that could earn them some kind of sanction. question is how far back in time do we go to find crap to penalize? case in point....

    a post made on 01-10-08, 08:26 PM.........

is penalized on 09-25-09, 10:31 PM

that is, some stupid shit draq said 1 year and 8 mths ago, has earned him a ban from the illustrious jamesr

it does put this bit of advice james threw in my direction......

    ....in perspective.

so ahh....do we have a statute of limitations here? when can stuff "come back to bite you sooner or later"? for instance, if i had said "jamesr is one sad fuck", 2 1/2 years ago, could i be punished for that now?

this new method of moderating the forums appears to demonstrate an overt hostility on part of the moderators towards the community. it also seems rather petty and spiteful

but then again that is just my humble opinion

is this banning due to the fact that there is no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity? and this is what happened here? why a lousy 3 days? i mean we are talking genocide here

    thanks

    In the interest of fairness,

    1. James probably didn't realise it was an old post

    2. someone else who also did not realise it was an old post reported it and James felt he was duty bound to take action

I do have a hazy recollection of draq being banned for that very post before, or perhaps another one similar to it.

I'm still trying to understand this one myself. I've sort of questioned about this topic in three threads, including this one.

OMG! Am I to be banned for cross posting now? :bugeye:

    sam

i am sorry but you probably made a wrong turn
fanciful conjecture and wild speculation is better suited for the pseudoscience forum
    off you go, dear

Hmm.. you have a good point there Gus.
James should immediately cancel Draqon's ban. Of course it might be too late by the time he reads this.

    Something, something, Burt Ward

I just checked through the suspension record, and if Draqon was banned for that post before, nobody logged it.

Also, I searched through the record of warnings and found nothing logged regarding that post. However, a month later, he received a yellow card warning for ... you called it ... a similar post. See #1750929/23. Plazma Inferno! issued the warning approximately four hours after Draqon posted.

    A note for Gustav

If we have an official statute of limitations here, I've long forgotten what it is.

I would also opine that the new method of moderation you suggest isn't hostile toward the community, although I will say that certain behavior we've let slide in the past is currently not looked upon lightly.

You're aware, I think, of people's tendencies to look at things as a still-frame. Moderator vigilance and strictness is dynamic and irregularly cyclical. We make a push to clean up some of the problems, members complain. So we back off, and member complaints about one another's conduct start rolling in. So eventually we make another push, and somewhere in there people start complaining about inconsistency, as if the periodic dozen threads about how this or that moderator is being a fascist or whatever never occurred. If we ignore the complaints, people get pissed off that we're ignoring the complaints. If we follow up and adjust according to the complaints, we're inconsistent fascists playing favorites while humping someone's bedridden grandmother to death, or something like that.

So it goes. I've learned there's no real point in complaining about the schizophrenic themes revealed in the sum of any significant bloc of complaints in the cycles. But I would suggest that it's not so much a "new" method as it is just another oscillation in the cycle. And the cycle varies from moderator to moderator. Take me as an example. Just as the WE&P team and James R step up, I'm moderating less and less of late. At least it feels like it. The last disciplinary suspension I issued was ... um ... well, fuck. Unless I forgot to log something, June 19, and that was in order freeze one of the most bizarre libel attacks I've seen out of a sock puppet yet; the suspension was, turned into a permanent ban of a sock puppet. Before that it was another sock puppet on a bender, back in March ... I mean, that just doesn't sound right. Okay, okay. Now I'm just downright curious. You know, the last temporary vacation that wasn't about freezing a sock puppet until the administration could confirm and terminate.

Okay ... wow. I discussed and requested a one-day suspension of Baron Max eleven months ago that was approved and executed by higher authority.

Well, goddamn. The last time I pushed the jolly, candy-like button myself was December 30, 2007.

Don't get me wrong, I've slain more than a few spammers with permabans in the meantime, but fuck, man. Even I thought ... I mean ... you know?

Of course, I issued another one two days before that.

Um ... wow. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dave still ran this place in March, 2005, right?

I ... I really thought I had sent more people than that. I mean, February and March, 2005. Two suspension requests before moderators had the authority to do the deed themselves.

But, yeah, I thought I had done more damage than that. I mean, I must have failed to log something. There's thirty-six pages of suspensions and related discussions. And that's all I found. What the hell have I been doing all this time?

Anyway, sorry for the late digression. I was going somewhere with it, I'm sure, but that was just a fascinating trip through the records.

For any that saw what James R has just done to me with regard to "Apology Demand by James R" then take note that when I posted a rebuttal about his action in this forum he has moved it to the cesspool and locked it.

He thinks he can control content that is indicative of him being wrong. This is all about ego on HIS part.

I have no desire to debate him on the issue and as he says it IS not negotiable.

He has defamed me for the last time without getting back what he sows.

Since he was unable to respond to the issue I have raised using physics he thinks he can censor that information so he isn't embarassed but frankly he is adding to his embarassment by these silly childish actions.

Go ahead throw a temper tantrum James R you were caught twice in recent weeks saying silly things that are contridictive. You will be better off to admit your failures.

OK, but now that they must realize the post was almost 2 years ago, can he be unbanned, or at the very least can a statue of limitations be put on bannable posts?

Has anybody tried or thought about starting a members petition against mod actions?

It would be like a members rights petition. Enough sign on and threaten to leave maybe the higher ups will put some heat under these ego maniacs.

there is only one mod who should be let go. tbh, i would not nhave a problem with him being a mod for art and entertainment. just to throw him a bone.
