Why are there in North America no large deserts like those of the Sahara in Africa and of the Middle East?

How were the landforms and water bodies of the earth like oceans, lakes, rivers and streams created? What's their origin?

But why are there in North America much less deserts than the Middle East and North Africa (the Sahara) although both places are on the same latitudes?

Probably has something to do with ocean currents and rainfall.

Ok then for example: Why is there in Florida more rain than in Israel although the north end of Israel is in a higher latitude (closer to the north pole to be more accurate) than the north end of Florida? The north end of Florida is in latitude 30° 45′ N and the north end of Israel is in latitude 33° 12′ N.

Another example: Why is Montreal (Canada) colder than Zurich (Switzerland) although Zurich's latitude is higher (or closer to the north pole to be more accurate) than Montreal's? Shouldn't a place of a higher latitude be colder than a place of a lower latitude?
