I have a bunch of questions but I'll start basic. This is for anyone who is or was a student. The purpose is to help me get ideas for some Education papers.

Did you ever have a GREAT teacher or prof, and what exactly made them great?

What's a very cool lesson you received (in school) -- and no, not in the bathrooms or under bleachers -- I mean, as part of the curriculum? (Eg. a lesson in English or Physics or Psych) What made the lesson so good (ie what did the teacher/prof do to make it effective)?

Sorry if this is trite annoying academic stuff... But I do need some ideas. Please and thank you.

    Yup.

This guy, my grade 9 history teacher, was amazing.

The guy was unflappable. There was absolutely nothing you could do to push him over the edge, but if he dissaproved of something, he would let you know.

His lessons were unique. He knew everything about the subject, and went out of his way to make it interesting. Kind of like story-telling time. Little bits of humor and gusto injected into an otherwise bland curriculum. For example:
-while teaching Russian history, Rasputin was a major component. While teaching medieval history (england,) he showed us what peasant life was like-- One day coming to class as a friar. He turned the industrial revolution into a home made boardgame.
-Spent weeks of class time teaching us the history of modern music(past century,) by the decade, and explained the background of each song to great detail. Even though it was completely unnecessary. I learned more practical things from those few weeks than the rest of the year.
-Had little competitive 'projects' that tied nicely into the curriculum and made it interesting.

Basically, his classes were fun. He didn't teach in monotone, was ALWAYS happy and loved his job.

The best teachers I ever had were the ones who were discussing their onw life in class. One teacher, once in a while, told us what it was like to be a rebellious teen and to be a single mom. My favorite gov't teacher was a Vietnam war veteran. Sharing experience is what teachers do best and what I value most. Reading the text book and memorizing important things isn't hard to do on one's own.

Richard Bach said, one teaches best what he is yet to learn.

I had this great teacher back in high school. He was so good that he had his technique down pat and I'm sure he hasn't varied for years. His strategy was to insult the students and call them 'cretins' when they got shit wrong. He made everything very simple for people, threw no curveballs, very well structured and conceptually simplified, yet effective. He had this plastic hammer he called the 'decretinizer' and would beat the students when they displeased him. If you were really bad, he would give you 'the foot of justice'. That means kicking you in the ass.

I have a GREAT teacher right now. She's my German teacher. The way she teaches language . . . It's awesome! It's very easy to learn the language this way.

She's not only my favorite teacher kuz she can teach well, either. She listens to me when I am having a problem. She really helps me out with what's going on with my life. I know she'll always have good advice for me. She's truly one of my best adult friends.

I know I'll remember her for the rest of my life.

When I was doing German, I had two different teachers in two years - the first teacher was next to useless - very friendly, but not good at teaching. The second year, the teacger I has was amazing - he LOVED German, he criticissed if you weren't doing as well as you could, he made people speak German much more than we previously had - I estimate he raised everyone's marks in that class by at least one grade.
Apart from that, I've had a couple of good Physics teachers and lecturers, basically due to enthusiasm for the subject and humour. Also, my dad teaches Chemistry, and he taught a load of my friends who all got on with him really well, because he was pretty relaxed about classroom discipline, but still taught clearly, and always tried to help people with their problems.

The best teachers I had are those who loved their discipline and loved to share it with their students. I had lots of them : I guess I'm very lucky! It was in astronomy, math, biology, CS, philosophy, english, history, german (I should have more listen to her : it's my fault!!!) and so many others.

I've had a few awesome techers over the years. I had one teacher who taght nothing about the subject he was upposed to teach (Sociology, I think it was

) but he told us stories about his interesting life, about university, about his family etc. I learned the most about life in general in that grade 10 class. I had a grade 9 science teacher who was the funniest person I have ever met. He made jokes about what he was teaching that would have our class falling on the floor laughing. Who thought Bohr Rutherford's diagrams could be so funny? He was also easy on the eyes...
Any teacher that loves their subject is good. The only bad techers that I have had hate their job. when I have more time (I have to go back to class right now) I might tell some funny stories

As, I remembered the teachers always explains the lessons with the help of showing example which will always remembered while you have to deal the topic you are capable for being explained the thing in a simple and an easy manner which is very necessary at the time of explaining.

So, if you are a teacher or want to teach then must try to include examples in your topic, this gives a simple way to the students to catch the whole topic easily and effectively.

The teacher needs to love the subject.
    Work hard to prepare lessons.
    Communicate enthusiasm.

Good, hard-working, dedicated. You do get them as teachers sometimes.

Some of my teachers would help me after school was let out to understand things I didn't understand in their classes. They would always say that if anyone wanted extra help with anything to just stop by after school to get that help.
