The question was too long to put in the title. Question 3: Was England justifiable in interfering between Egypt and the Soudan rebels?

This is a question in a series I'm doing out of a book from the late 1800s. The book appears specifically to be from 1889, knowledge that might be helpful in looking at the question from a historical perspective. Honestly I have no opinion on this as I have no prior knowledge of the historical circumstances it's referring to, and out of laziness haven't look into it past a quick reading of the Wikipedia's article on Sudan. But more knowledgeable people than I might enjoy discussing it, and I'd be interested to see what that discussion is.

Edit: Lord Hillyer tells me that the question is most likely referring to the Madhist War - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahdist_War

"Justified" is nothing but an opinion ...usually without good, valid reasoning.

Anything can be "justified" by some ...but others will claim that the very same thing was NOT "justified". Who's to decide?

I believe this question refers to the Mahdist War (1881-1899).* It was a religion-of-peace-related (Islamic) bloodbath but one that Britain was obligated to join since she was responsible for Egypt.

The Sudanese were eventually defeated by British forces (allied with colonial Egyptian forces - Sir Winston Churchill wrote of it in a book called The River War). They remained thereafter under British control until 1956, when Britain volountarily bestowed them independence. Now, of course, the place is a veritable hell-hole.

This came up with question 2 (Is it assassination ever justiable?) as well, didn't it?

I believe that what both, and probably most future, questions are asking if it is justifiable to you. For the sake of discussion, you are to decide. It goes without saying that there will be some disagreement; it wouldn't make much of a discussion if there wasn't.

You certainly sound like you know more about the situation than I do. Thank you for the link... I'll add a note to my original post including it.
