    It started with 2, then 4 then 6. Now physsie techs are talking about 8 or more. How is this possible? just what sort of information is being encoded?

    Information isn't being encoded, the quantum objects are being put into a particular state relative to one another. Encoding and sending information is then done by manipulating the qubits.
