has anyone heard the new Puddle of mudd song called "she fucking hates me". ?

it has the same base line.. (i think) as nirvana's lithuim, and the lead singer sounds just like ol' kurt.

its so close it almost makes it feel wrong to listen.. but then.. its kinda cool too.. im not sure yet.. just wondering about everyone else opinion..

Actually, Nightfall, if you listen carefully to the music the younger generation are listening to on the radio, you'll find that there is a very high percentage of releases using old baselines, guitar riffs or whatever. You just aren't aware of it, because you never heard the original songs.

I wasn't really aware of it myself until sometime back in the 80's when MC Hammer first released "u cant touch this" and suddenly it was like the blinkers came off.

And don't even get me fucking STARTED on the covers....

They sound almost EXACTLY like Nirvana, but they are quite fine.

Exactly, Nightfall. It's almost blasphemous to enjoy them, but I do.

What're your fav songs? I like Take It All Away, Control, and Drift and Die.

Um, no. The number of possibilties in existence is so large I can't even begin to explain. It's just that these guys probably grew up and became a band out of Nirvana and so it's a riff they've been playing a long time. Other times, it's pure coincidence.

The progressions in Chicago's 25 Or 6 To 4 and Green Day's Brainstew are basically the same for much of the song - but something tells me Billy Joe wasn't much of a Chicago fan!

I am a sucker for these recyclers sometimes.

But they are still EVIL! We should only be listening to NIRVANA, TOOL and NINE INCH NAILS if we want our dish served hard.

Free-e-e your mi-i-i-i-ind.

I caught some video of Puddle's last night. For some reason, Nirvana's "Sliver" is stuck in my head now. Had I a record label, I would not have signed this band unless they happened to be friends of mine. And then I could turn loose a friend of mine as producer.

thanx,
Tiassa

oh tiassa. that's terrible! you have a sliver in your head!!.. j/k. lol.

but its not just the music that resembles nirvana.. its that voice!!! okay.. so maybe the rest of you were not in temporary love with it as much as i.. but.. .....its very similar... i do think the music must have something to do with it though.. cuz in "control" (that.. slap my ass song) he doesn't really sound like him.. or.. well.. i never noticed.. maybe i should listen to it again...

It's a brilliant song. One of the few songs about sex that aren't repeating the same damned theme, and how many songs can you name about both sex and friendship? And the dichotomy is perfect. Fucking perfect.

But he still does sound a bit like Kurt.

hm. you have a good point.. i mean.. i can think of songs that remind me of sex and friendship.. but im not really sure why.. lol ;)

i used to like the song quite a bit actually... but, ive heard it ALOT... so.. its not so appealing anymore....

Many musicians have one influence thats so big, that they're basically ripping them off.

Elvis ripped off the r&b and jazz artists of his day, but he had an advantage. Few knew about these artists, and he got away with it. Same with the Beatles.

Nirvana admitted to being a "Pixies cover band."

Also, theres tons of ways you can get one song to sound like another. Weather it is using the same chord (power chords are what is used by MANY MANY bands), the strumming pattern, the tuning of the instruments, the vocals, the way it is produced, or the fact that it is the same band.

The producer does play a big role. Listen to "Buddy Holly" by Weezer, then listen to any of The Cars' songs. Ric (frontman of the cars) produced two weezer albums, including the one with BH.

The intro to the Strokes "Last Nite" is very similar to Tom Petty's "American Girl."

Also, the G chord is widely used, so you may be hearing that.
