View Full Version : Protection from the suns heating
cosmictraveler 05-18-07, 10:05 AM Why not put a satellite in a LaGrange orbit that has a multiple array laser system on it to make a circle from the center outward far enough to make an umbrella like shield from harmful suns rays. Lasers could intercept SOME of the light which makes up the heating effects here on earth. It could be powered by the sun with solar power.
Baron Max 05-18-07, 12:44 PM Good idea! Why don't you do it?

spidergoat 05-18-07, 01:06 PM 1. The billions that would cost could be better spent on Earthly programs like increasing fuel efficiency, developing new sources of power, solar power plants, electric cars, trains, etc.
2. Lasers wouldn't intercept light from the sun. A better idea would be a big inflatable ball made of mylar or other reflective material.

But, .....it won't cost us anything, CosmicTraveler's gonna' do it!

guthrie 05-18-07, 01:54 PM Why on earth would laser intercept the light?
Anyway, i thought of this one back in 1999, and someone else suggested it a couple of years later, but they wanted to use a Fresnel lense.
cosmictraveler 05-24-07, 02:04 PM It has been found that lasers will prevent some light from getting through them. By having enough lasers deployed you can prevent more light coming through. The cost of such a devise would be rather inexpensive and can be made in a very short time.
I cannot do this for my resources are quite limited but do hope that someday it will be done by others of more affluent means.
TruthSeeker 05-24-07, 02:27 PM I didn't know we had more the one star. I feel so embarrasingly ignorant now...
spidergoat 05-24-07, 02:34 PM A thin piece of metal foil accomplishes the job without energy, why use a laser?
darksidZz 05-24-07, 02:45 PM I believe spidergoat (chews hat) that foil would incinerate in the presence of such overwhelming lightwaves, am I right?
Exploradora 05-24-07, 06:30 PM Um, so we should wrap the earth in tin foil to prevent global warming now?
Sounds like a plan!

Um, no. A large inflated reflective mylar sphere was already placed in orbit once. A reflective material would not heat up significantly. Metal foil is used to protect spacecraft, like the moon lander.

It's cool!!!

That's a lot of foil.... !
NASA had a plan to make sub-micron foil in space that can be made in an automated spaceship/plant that would cover the planet in a few years continuously extruding the foil. But the idea was scrapped due to the "Nutty" nature.
If the oceans rise and eat up San Francisco, may be they will revisit the crazy idea. :D
cosmictraveler 05-26-07, 02:40 PM A laser can be adjusted as to how much it interacts with the suns rays as they hit the lasers. You will need a way to adjust to make the Earth either warmer or cooler depending upon the climate conditions here.
spidergoat 05-26-07, 02:42 PM How about venetian blinds?
Fraggle Rocker 05-26-07, 02:59 PM That's a lot of foil.Christo would do it. :)
