I've always had a great fascination by the diversety of wildlife that is out there. Every so often we stumble on creatures that are astounding, there are some that in their 'strangeness' put thought to concept of reason for existence (all life has a purpose?).

I would like people to post any Information on creatures, organism's,or downright bizzare lifeforms......That in their 'peculirality' have made you turn your head...or that you think not many people know about.

This is the Leucochloridium paradoxum which lives in snails tentacles...

LOL...real life horrorshow.

This lives in crickets and makes them drown themselves.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76BnVsaLiR0

this causes sticklebacks to not move when a bird tries to fish them from the water..lol makes them fearless, fish PCP probablyhttp://www.clarku.edu/departments/biology/fosterbaker/images/parasites.jpg
My favourite animal is the bush baby...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maX9qXD0PpE&feature=related

I also heard of a parasite that lives in monkey brains but forget its name,

So anything bizzare and living please place in this Wacky Woven listing of life

I think it's interesting bees will sting people. When a bee stings someone, it dies. Not sure why.

I asked my science teacher why it is, bees kill themselves just to cause a little harm to us. He said it is because it is an effort to keep threats away.

I think it represents one of three ideas...

1. bees are dumb

2. bees are so noble, they kill themselves for there hive

3. bees understand, and therefor do not fear death

Also. When a bee colony gets to big, it actually goes and attacks another. In turn, the population of the colony goes down, and if they defeat the new colony they attacked, they get more territory to expand.

I'd think that each picture represents a quality picture of a new form of critter. I wouldn't classify either of them along with any known critters for they belong in a phylum and species all of their own. :D

When a bee stings someone, it dies.

Not all bees die when they sting you. Some can sting you over and over like yellowjackets or hornets while others like honey bees will die after they sting you because they leave their stinger in you. ;)

Looks like the seeds are just sprouting. Maybe its due to the oddly warm weather they have been having.

Can you imagine the inflation on the price of strawberries if they changed to this......Apparently strawberry plants walk too, they can pull their roots and move (obviously without visual movement but over a period of time)...maybe they are John Wyndams 'Triffids of the future'

It takes 1 giant hornet to kill 1000 bees....when theres a posse of 30 giant hornets the bees are harmless in comparrison....

umm, don't all tree leaves move when you touch them?

the leaves respond to physical touch....its called seismonastic movements
I found a plant similar but cannot find the tree I meant...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbYF1YP09MI&feature=related
seismonastic movements are normaly associated with carnivorous plants ie venus flytrap

Orleander

no no no, I wasn't being sarcastic. sorry if it read that way.

What about the Mimosa? Is that the tree?

Pinocchio's Hoof
04-07-08, 03:08 PM
Mimosa is the genus, the plant is Mimosa pudica, it seems to be classed as a perennial herb which is grown for its curiosity value....I used to have venus fly trap and pitcher plants when i was young but I killed them off by constantly touching them
