new printer drivers. I seem to have a problem that I cannot resolve with my PC trying to "see" my printer. It tells me my printer isn't turned on when it most certainly is. I have another hard drive that my printer works just fine with but as soon as I try to use my new HD and put the drivers into it , my new HD tells me my printer isn't turned on. I've tried uninstalling the printer port and then reloading the drivers but that didn't work. I have the CD that the printers drivers are on but it gives me that the printer isn't turned on everytime I try to load it. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening and what I can do to resolve the problem? Thank you in advance.

    Hiya Cosmic,

Is there just 1 PC involved here? If so, are you using the same OS on both HD's?

I've never come across this one before. It has to be a driver problem, so I'd recommend doing the following.

    1) Disable printer port in the bios (Or unplug printer from PC if usb)
    2) Start Windows and delete the installed printer(Use the printer uninstall program too(first) if it has got one)
    3) ReEnable the printer port in the bios (Plug printer back in if usb)
    4) Windows should automatically install the correct port (If not usb)
    5) Use your CD to install the printer drivers

If this doesn't work then there could be a problem with your Win98 install, which may require a fresh install.

If what I mentioned above doesn't work could you tell me if you bought the PC and Printer in a package deal with Win98 preinstalled on your old HD?

I would simply suggest that the settings in one OS install, might be different from that of the other.

(Namely allocation of Free IRQ's could be different because somethings not installed on one where it is on the other.)

This would potentially cause the two drives to have out of sync registry and Hardware configurations, which is shown by the printer not working.

Davewhite04's suggestion of uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers is probably your best bet.

Ok , finally got it to load. I removed both printer ports then removed the printer drivers that were installed with Win 98 then rebooted. When it came back it reloaded both ports then FINALLY wanted me to direct it to the Cannon drivers on the CD, so it FINALLY "saw" the printer after I got the new drivers installed.

Now it loaded everything this time and my printer now works just fine, thank you all again for your help. It must have just been those other printer drivers that were causing all the problems because I did remove both printer ports before but nothing ever happened when rebooted.
