Hi guys

I have a problem here, just wondering if anyone could help me out.

I have an external HDD that I use with multiple computers, and I would like to change the volume label of it. When I try to change it in My Computer, I get an error message, "You do not have suffiecient rights to perform this operation", even though i have administrator rights, and I am the only user of the computer.

Has anyone had this problem, or know how to fix it?

Thanks

Try holding F8 down at startup till you get the option to safe boot. Choose admin. TRy change it again.

hold down win+break, click on computer name and see what you can do from there.

I think that's what you are talking about.

If not, Partition Magic is your surefire bet.

hey guys, thanx for the help but i figured it out...i tried booting the computer in safe mode, logging in as administrator, and even partition magic...none worked...i finally found a site that had the command line command to change it...that worked

btw, the command is: LABEL [drive:][label]

i dont know y this worked while even partition magic couldnt change it, but whatever....

P.S. southstar, i was trying to change a volume label on a hard drive, not change the computer name or anything....

oooh

sorry. :)

Well, are you sure you are using the latest version of PartitionMagic?

I have PartitionMagic 8.0 and it is perfectly capable of changing drive labels.

yep, latest version of PartitionMagic. I have changed volume labels before with PM, and usually changing volume labels works in My Computer, but for whatever reason, my computer didnt think i had the permission...:/

oh, well at least i figured it out
