President Bush is a fundamentalist Christian. Given the current state of affairs in the world, W has no choice but to say that Islam is a religion of "peace and love." If he were to say anything otherwise he would infurate Muslims across the globe, convincing them that the United States is on a "Crusade" against them.

According to fundamentalist Christians, all non-Christians will go to hell. Now, Bush has to say that Muslims are "peaceful and loving" while in the back of his mind he is sure they will go to hell.

I just thought this was worth noting.

Are you sure this is true? I've heard him described as a "born-again" Christian but not a fundamentalist.

    Born again = fundamentalist

Born again Christians are pretty much the same thing as fundamentalists. People who bother to identify themselves as "born again" are often converts. The ones that grew up that way are more likely to say they're Pentecostal or Charismatic or Evangelical or one of the subtypes of fundamentalism. But they all believe that they have been "born again." There's no real difference.

Bush calls himself a Christian for appearances only, his actions speak otherwise.

Religions are just too easy to hijack. They should have someone unassailable at the controls of those contraptions- like a real god.

Fraggle Rocker -- some equate the two but this site:

    http://www.born-again-christian.info/salvation.htm

explains being born-again as having strayed from Christianity and then accepting him (or as a Christian would say "Him") again. But, hey, I'm not religious, so I could be wrong.

"i cant believe you think this has anything to do with religion.

Saddam is his own religion, but the more bellicose his talk, the more you will hear references to God.
There are distinct religious underpinnings to the Bush/Sharon unsheathing of the sword, as there is with al-Qaeda and dozens of other Islamic militias.
Hijackers of religion are not religious. But the wars they stir up are fueled by the groupthink religion encourages.
I can quote Biblical and Qur'anic blessings on pillage, if not rape.
