Hullo.
I need some help.
I am having a re-sit examination, and need prepare the post-modernist school of literary criticism.
Principles of fabulation, traits of anti-hero, and so on.
Can anybody tell me where I can find the appropriate data on the net, if at all.
I cannot find a decent text on fabulation anywhere.
And one more thing.
I need to choose a movie and deconstruct it according to the forementioned school.
Can you suggest one?
Just not The American Psycho.
My teacher claims it is too obvious a choice.
Thank you in advance.
"Debbie Does Dallas" can easily be read as a discourse on techniques of the self. :)
Try www.theory.org or www.cyberartsweb.org
Use some mainstream movie to make it more entertaining.

Looking For Mr. Goodbar or Taxi Driver, two movies that you can do it with.

Foreign films are often good choices. (Nothing makes one look quite so intelligent, right?)...
Fellini's La Dolce Vita might yield an interesting anti-hero analysis.
Videodrome has no redeeming characters and a very postmodernist bent, so it might work well for you. I wrote several papers on Cronenberg in college. Professors liked them, for the most part.
Almost anything by David Lynch is also ripe.
Or if you wanted to go ridiculously meta, you could "deconstruct" the documentary on Jacques Derrida (father of deconstruction, who just passed away this weekend incidentally... ) called Derrida. It isn't a narrative, of course, but hey, it might earn a couple points just for bravery.
Whatever the case, just be sure you are as verbose as possible, referencing Freud, Lacan, and Baudrillard at every turn and you can't lose. ;)

As JustARide mentioned, impenetrably dense prose will allow you to get away with almost anything.
Anyone remember this? (http://www.physics.nyu.edu/faculty/sokal/transgress_v2/transgress_v2_singlefile.html) The name Sokal should be enough.

Naked Lunch
Jacob's Ladder
Apocalypse Now
Repo Man
Bridget Jone's Diary (but only if you're a master)

Huge thanks to all those who have decided to help me with my trouble.
Thank you a lot.
And, just if anybody would be curious, I have passed my examination.
Thanks again.
Foreign films are often good choices. (Nothing makes one look quite so intelligent, right?)...More importantly, it’s less likely that whoever grades your paper will be familiar with the movie if it’s foreign – giving you much more leeway.

Just to add up and clarify, I live in Poland and study English at the local university.
Thank you all.
