I think the option to have a post count displayed under a name should be disabled. I think this will prevent as many pointless one liners as there are. This is just my opinion. (porfiry, bandwidth is money ;))

No way, just having the average posts per day displayed wouldn't be good. In my case it'd be alot lower than is really representative.

I started this account about a year or year and a half or so before I acctualy started posting regularly (I started off with one thread about mole men in sciforums, when a friend in high-school showed me this forum. . . high school fuck ok this account is more than 2 years old) anyway it wasn't until much longer that I started posting, and so my average posts per day are really low, despite posting like 20 times a day.

Ok lets just get rid of the post count all together, make us all equal!

I agree with Mystech...even when i post 3 times a day my average post per day stays way up in the clouds.....let's keep the way it is and get rid of the people that only post in free thoughts.

- I personally think the post count is useful. It does have its downside; to a certain degree we had a poster that put up useless post after post. It never occurred to me what was up--partially because it hadn't occurred to me to think about it--but shortly after he became the most prolific poster at Sciforums, post counts became a short topic of discussion. It was, for the most part, a waste of bandwidth, so there's that to consider as well.

- I do note post counts. Most often my own. Every once in a while, when faced with an issue I'm tired of, and if someone's on a personal bender, I point out that there's quite obviously a good number of my posts that person isn't considering.

- I have no idea, if I didn't see the post count with the posts, whether I would overestimate or underestimate the number of posts I put up.

- The displayed post count does tell new members a little about who they're dealing with. This is sometimes a bad thing. When I had the highest post count, I swear that some people materialized out of nowhere just to argue with me. I've even been accused of running a "Church of Tiassa" in relation to the amount I post.

- I'm sure I could ramble on uselessly if I tried, but what would be the point?

I got it! A make a minimum amount of text per post limit! Say you have to have 200 letters per post or the post won’t go throw. This way only long and descriptive stuff get posted, anything else would be easily recognized as crap and deleted. We could also have a up limit as well I’m tired of really long post.

Well if we did that I predict that we'd get people who still post one liners, but then also a bunch of nonsense after that.

What we'd end up with is probably a lot of people who sound like Rippleofdeath.

But the nonsense could easily be detected.

Members always want a PM about why their posts were deleted. Which most moderators are glad to provide, as long as they ask. Other then that you get nothing. Because if we sent a PM for every one-liner that was deleted, we'd be here all day.
