Not that it matters but I was thinking about Harry Potter the other day. Now, I know it's fantasy and that it doesn't matter, but what the heck is in a unicorn's blood?

It was silvery, right? What's in it's hemoglobin? Just curious.

It mercury. You see, unicorns aren't held upright by bones, or animated by muscles, but rather kept alive and set in motion by the minds of small children.

Unicorn blood is a highly acidic substance which will eat through any known metal, but has no effect on human flesh. Unicorns are not immune to its corrosiveness, however, and suffer their entire lives in incredible agony which only the immense healing powers of their horns permit them to survive.

The acidity of their blood is caused by their drawing of hatred out of the world; it was believed by those that created them that this would allow the world to become a beautiful place, full of light and warmth. Unicorns do indeed absorb hatred and pain, and it burns them terribly from within, but it has been discovered that it escapes from their spilled blood - which explains why the world is not so full of beauty and wonder as we always believe it should be. Still, their drawing of pain and hatred permits proximal effects such as human love and joy.

So remember, whenever you are happy, somewhere a unicorn is screaming.

Pleasant dreams!

Hemoglobin is in our blood, it gives our blood our color so an unicorn doesn't neccessarily have hemoglogbin. I doubt its Mercury since Unicorns would weigh a shitload and likely could never take flight.

Their blood contains dreams of children and the young at heart to give them the magical powers they posess.

there is a great varity of oxygenating blood in non-mythical creatures, none though are silver.

Here is good site:

if anyone wants better details on oxygenating blood I would be glad to explain the biochemistry of it all, it a subject I had much interest in.
