The "political hate speech" dodge has been in sporadic use by Bush handlers for nearly a year. (http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20031113.html) But it's back in the forefront of Bushevik rhetoric again now. It seems to me like they resort to it whenever under pressure of having their motivations and misadventures publicly scrutinized.
Funny, ain't it, how conservatives used to complain about political correctness in language? It's nice to know that sexism, racism, homophobia, ethnocentrism, and disparagement of age, health and handicap, sexual attraction are all things that should be respected but criticism of a President of the United States is somehow hate speech. I mean, it's not like the Democrats are staking the reputation of the entire past, present, and future armed services on a lie. And speaking of lies, how is it that calling a lie a lie is hateful? We need this periodic affirmation that honesty is vilified in the beltway, and once again, it's the Republicans. Remember when they hauled Clinton into a lawsuit over the Paula Jones scandal? Remember how the lawyers argued the lawsuit wouldn't disrupt the presidency and therefore should be allowed against privilege? They knew.
Remember: honesty is not a part of the Republican platform. After all, when the facts aren't wid 'em, they're agin' 'em.

Thanks Hype 4 the link. I had not known of this crap going on, however it's something not new to the US.
I read it way back so don't quote me!!. I read that some man was arrested during the Lincon presidency for speaking out against him while Lincoln was in a parade. The man was drunk so they got him on public ludeness, and speaking non-sense according to them..
Godless.
It's time people woke up to this so-called "Hate speech" concept. This is totally against the ideals of our Founding Fathers and freedom in general. If a certain kind of speech is illegal, who determines just what is illegal? For example if it's legal to smear Palestinians but not legal to point scrutiny at the misdeeds of Israel or legal to smear one political party and not another how is the public going to get a fair and balanced perspective?
The first ammendment was put there for a good reason, lets stand up for it.
